This bill was long overdue and I am so grateful for the leadership of Senator @CarineWerner and her co-sponsors as well as MCAO Rachel Mitchell for their relentless pursuit of protecting kids. Thank you @TessRafolsTV for your coverage and support.
ICYMI: @CarineWerner is working to protect children in Arizona's K-12 schools from sexual predators who are flying under the radar with SB 1437.
@marcoattorney Rachel Mitchell and child safety advocates joined Senate and House lawmakers to urge support for this legislation at a press conference this week.
Teaching stress tolerance needs to start in elementary school. Our kids are up against things we never had to deal with. @NedJohnson's book "The Self-Driven Child" implores us to provide radical downtime and to give our kids a sense of control over their own lives💥
A salutary read to help shape our #backtoschool plans: “Educators and parents should #partner to help #students identify effective and positive ways to deal with their stress.” Thank you, @EdWeekOpinion and @KambarKhoshaba. edweek.org/leadership/opinio…
Suicide rates for youth and young adults ages 15-24 involving a firearm have risen 45%. Means restriction and public awareness about it is vital to saving lives.

Distress & suffering are natural parts of life. Yes, we want to reduce them. But it’s by moving through them (not avoiding them) that growth & wisdom come. Great point from @LDamour 👇🏻
Too often, we are equating feeling upset with suffering from a mental health concern. #aspenideashealth

I was problem solving with a 1st grader. He asked me if his brain was small. I told him that his brain is the perfect size and it keeps growing every single day. To which he replied.
"That's good because it's already full of memories, and I still feel like collecting more."

"For decades, babysitting was a job & a rite of passage. @TheAtlantic reports that now, the teen babysitter has all but disappeared: many parents believe 12- & 13-year-olds shouldn’t even be left home alone -- they worry less about teens & more FOR them." theatlantic.com/family/archi… – at Miami Beach, FL
78% of our D's and F's go to our boys
Most of our substance abuse referrals are boys
Boys are referred to the front office 4:1 over girls staring in Kindergarten
They deserve better support and trusted adults to recognize their unique gifts and talents.
In the past, when girls lagged behind boys in education, our society recognized that there was an issue and took steps to address it. We made changes to ensure that girls had equal opportunities to succeed. Now that boys are struggling academically, we tend to place the blame solely on them and expect them to make all the necessary changes. I find this approach to be unfair and unjust.
Boys have experienced a significant academic decline, falling far behind their female counterparts at every level of education. From elementary school to higher education, the gender gap is evident. Currently, women make up nearly 60% of college students and dominate the majority of associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees. Young men face higher dropout rates in college and are more prone to academic failure, suspension, and high school dropout.
I believe we need a similar push to support boys and their education like society did for girls a few decades ago. If you don’t agree, why?
As a T1D mom, mad props #Ravens Mark Andrews ❤️
Amazing: #Ravens TE Mark Andrews saved a woman’s life today!
During a flight from Baltimore to Phoenix. A woman suffered a medical emergency and Medical personnel on the flight couldn’t find a strong pulse.
Andrews, who is a type 1 diabetic, got up from his seat and said, “Could it be her blood sugar? I have a diabetic testing kit.”
Andrews gave them his kit to use and her heart-rate stabilized.
Paramedics were able to treat her when the flight landed. 🙏 ❤️

Our culture holds problematic standards for girls. Naming them is the first step toward taming them.
Love this kid and family. Definitely a courageous UPstander!
BRASS KNUCKLES BAN?
Connor Jarnagan was assaulted by a teen using brass knuckles in 2022. He needed staples in his head.
Since then, he's been contacting lawmakers pushing for change.
Now, a lawmaker says he could write a bill banning the weapon as early as next week. @12News
A powerful meeting tonight as we confront teen violence in our community. A special thank you to @MarkStewart_AZ and the Mayor and council for their attentive listening to our concerns 🧡 Preston continues to shine his LIGHT
With the East Valley teen violence issue so high-profile, the city of Chandler took a proactive approach addressing it at a council meeting tonight. They say they have no known cases related to the “Gilbert Goons.”
Preston Lord’s stepmom and other mothers of victims of teen attacks bravely spoke tonight - the words powerful and emotional.

My heart is broken for my friends whose children who have been impacted by senseless violence
As a community we must be UPstanders not BYstanders
Preston deserves justice. Our kids deserve to feel safe getting a cheeseburger.
@GilbertPolice @GilbertAZMayor
Please provide a central point of contact for victims who were too traumatized and terrified to report after being attacked
Reporting for teens is difficult on a good day and this should be recognized publicly
@GilbertPolice acknowledging that being publicly assaulted on viral videos would cause any child to retreat and not report would also be advised. Public social media posts of arrests by the boys with #GPD shed light that dots were simply not connected.
