Despite never entering a national lockdown, Taiwan has remained nearly virus-free. I spoke to @audreyt about how the country did it for @WiredUK

I am on a bus right now and someone is watching a tv programme and not using headphones. Can this also count?
People playing loud music on buses could face £100 fine bbc.in/4yR9HFa
I went to see the Social Reckoning yesterday and all I can say is please don’t let Aaron Sorkin make a movie about the AI company CEOs.
Honestly, please.

It sounds like they were a cluster fuck (haha sorry I’m way more blunt than Dave)
I obviously can’t be sure but having a model cause ur IR to go wonky is a really bad red
Flag. 🚩
Dave’s point about ensuring you have appropriate resources,
Planning, skills and tools is 100 percent! 🫶🫡🤓🛡️🛡️🛡️
Good lessons learned here - have access to daybreak blue or others as a precaution and also have your own open weight infrastructure to handle.
Secondly - if doing good cyber security practices - shouldn’t need models to battle models, although time wise - incorporating them into what you do via response is much faster than manual approaches
Not saying they don’t have good security controls - have no idea - but lots of this is alleviated by doing these types of preps in advance versus after or during.

Ben Affleck says AI is simply matrix multiplication, linear algebra and floating point calculations, and however convincingly it sounds like a person, it has nothing to do with thought, humanity or feeling
“Nor do I believe, and I think it’s important to draw the distinction between what AI does, which is simply predict the next token or the next word in a sentence, then add that word on, run it back to the machine, do a lot of computation and pick the next word."
"That is a very different thing than sentience or thought. And I think we need to be really clear about that because it can be convincingly, in an illusory way, sound like thought or like a person."
"But let’s be real clear. This is matrix multiplication. This is linear algebra. These are floating point calculations. It has nothing to do with thought, humanity, or feeling.”

He vibe-coded the bug. Genius.
We discovered a sophisticated recording device that was hidden inside one of our offices. We used our models to understand the device and where it had come from, identifying that a specific employee had planted it a few days earlier. We referred the matter to the FBI, and we’re grateful to the agents and prosecutors who moved quickly to make an arrest. The FBI’s investigation is ongoing and we will continue to support their work.
At this time, we have no indications of this individual inappropriately accessing or exfiltrating model weights, source code, or customer data. The employee was terminated.
We take protecting our technology, data, and people seriously, and as a matter of national importance. Our security program is designed to protect against a wide range of threat actors, from insider risks to cybercriminals to nation states, and this case is an example of how AI can help address these sophisticated security threats.

Covering AI recently has shown that it’s very difficult to work out the facts, when established “experts” are operating on belief. It’s all the more important to verify, ask more than one person, ask for reports/stats.
