Good to be on @BBCBreakfast talking about our research on overcrowding in England and the devastating impact this is having on children.
We need an urgent, long term, national plan aimed at drastically increasing the number of affordable and social homes across England.

A pleasure to deliver the keynote address at this year’s Housing Community Summit in Liverpool.
Over the past 26 months, this Labour government has laid the foundations for a renewal of social and affordable housing.
The steps we’ve taken have made a real difference with affordable housing starts up 26% last year and the highest number of social rent starts since 2010/11.
There is lots more to be done to finish the job we’ve started and ensure councils and housing associations, alone and in deepening partnership, can flourish and play their full part in meeting housing need across England.
I’m running the #TogetherForHomes 5k in Sept as part of a @natfednews team, alongside colleagues from across the social housing sector
We are raising money for @crisis_uk who do vital work to support people out of homelessness
Donations very welcome🙏 justgiving.com/page/nhf5k?ut…

Hugely positive to see Andy Burnham put housing at the top of the agenda.
With affordable delivery rising and momentum building, now is the time to build on this progress and accelerate the delivery of social homes across the country.
Read our response to yesterday's speech:

ALT Kate Henderson, Chief Executive of the National Housing Federation, said: "Andy Burnham is absolutely right to say that everything starts with a good home and we strongly support his mission to put this at the top of our country's list of priorities. "Latest figures show we are now building more social rent homes than in over a decade, demonstrating support for our sector is already making a difference on the ground. “We want to keep this momentum going and continue working with local leaders and communities to drive the biggest boost to social housing since the post war period."
We’re building more social rent homes than in 10 years. To build on the momentum it’s vital government funding decisions on are not delayed during the period of political transition, as this will have a serious knock-on effect on development pipelines

Great to see our sector responding so positively to recent govt support - building more social rent homes than in 10+ years.
We are ready to build on this momentum through the new Social and Affordable Homes Programme and urge govt not to delay any decisions on funding.
