Itâs estimated that one in five women in the UK will experience a miscarriage in their lifetime.
But if you lose a pregnancy before 24 weeks, there is currently no legal right to bereavement leave.
I donât think thatâs right.
Losing a pregnancy can be devastating. You and your partner shouldnât have to worry about going straight back to work.
So weâre changing the law.
From April, women and their partners will be entitled to two weeks off after any pregnancy loss.
And weâre making wider changes, with new rights to time off when you lose someone you love.
When youâre grieving, you deserve the time and space to do that.
I didnât sleep properly for two weeks leading up to my official book launch.
My stomach was in knots for days before and on the day itself, I didnât even realise I had barely eaten anything, until much later that evening.
Such was the fearâŚ

𧾠Children in Read is doing the rounds again and thatâs a good thing. Authors donating signed books, money to BBC Children in Need, UK kids.Quick note though: that money goes into CINâs general pot. Youth clubs, poverty, mental health, all of it. Not ring-fenced for books. If you specifically want to help children with reading, book ownership and a love of stories â especially where a book is a luxury â thread below.
Well that will be me. âşď¸
A BARNSLEY author had great success at her book launch last weekend.

Contemplated deleting my account on here the other day.
I rarely post now and when I do, I feel like Iâm talking into a void.
Is anyone still on here I wonder?
Are any sane, normal humans still tweeting or has everyone scarpered? đ

The Newcastle Heraldâs âforced threesomeâ headline is quite something to behold. Two men held a woman down and raped her repeatedly. Thatâs not a forced threesome. Thatâs a gang rape.
Using threesome in the headline might generate Google reach but it also implies the victim was complicit in some way.
The journalist also describes rapists Ryan Hawkshaw and Hayden Topliss as âfooty boysâ - a paternalist description leaning into the âboys will be boysâ trope.
Both men were convicted on four counts of aggravated sexual intercourse in company, while Topliss was also found guilty of aggravated sexual intercourse and sexual touching.
The rapes happened in Scone, 2023 and the men will be sentenced in November.

From todayâs Times: âResearchers at the University of Cambridge said that regardless of âwhat or how we readâ, sitting down with a book is linked to improved health and problem solving. Benefits include lowering stress and reducing the risk of dementia, and span all types of reading, from comic books to classic novels or hefty non-fiction tomes.â
My best book launch yet. â¤ď¸
Huge thanks to everyone who joined me @BarnsleyLibs on Saturday for the launch of my second book âYou Donât Need More Clothesâ.
You always worry as an author that no one will turn up to your launch, so to see a packed room, was amazing.

A perfect system. Men commit the violence. Men police the violence. Men judge the violence. What could go wrong?

The removal of women from public life as somehow âoffensiveâ to any man or group of men, is not acceptable.
The demands of these men should not have been capitulated to. Far from it. This just validates a view that women are lesser humans.

Every aspect of this is horrific. I donât know where to start. But what a brave young woman with an incredible survival instinct.
A vile man named Paul Sharpe drove her to various locations after kidnapping her and masturbated over her feet, trying to make her drink an unidentified liquid. She thought she was going to be raped and murdered and so tore out her own hair to leave DNA. She probably was. He had chosen her carefully.
A judge said: âYou cannot control yourself and your urges, whether they be sexual or homicidalâ
This man Sharpe had been convicted of the murder of his partner in 2001. Can we please note given recent discussion about âsex playâ and âchokingâ that he strangled a woman called Sarah Jane Widdup.
Can we also remind @andyburnham that these men should never be released early? Probably not at all.
