Promotion / Relegation soccer is finally coming to America
Starting January of next year, the USL will start its first season with a pyramid structure between its 3 leagues, USL Premier (Division One), USL Championship (Division Two), and USL League One (Division Three), allowing the best performing teams to move their way up in place of teams that finish at the bottom of the league above them
Exciting, no doubt about it. A lot of risk being taken here by those involved, but it should be interesting at the very least to see how the stakes at hand impact the product on the field and the excitement level of each match
A new look. A shared ambition. One United Soccer League.
Rooted in communities across the country. Connected by our love of the game. United by the belief that soccer belongs to everyone.
United for Soccer.
Launching January 2027.

The United Soccer League has launched a new brand identity system aimed at creating cohesion between the eight leagues that make up the organization’s player pathway. The move comes with the @USLChampionship set to launch a new Division I men’s league called USL Premier and introduce a promotion-and-relegation system between its three professional men’s leagues in 2028.

USL’s men’s professional clubs have approved the first revenue-sharing model in league history.
The model is another step in USL’s broader vision for growth – expanding soccer into more communities, creating development pathways for players and coaches, and building meaningful competition that rewards ambition.

Another huge step for the @USL_HQ after the new CBA. Edging closer to where we are all wanting to be. Great work everyone.
Major report from ESPN's Jeff Carlisle: the USL is adopting a revenue-sharing model for its men's clubs.
No specific percentages are public, but the distribution of franchise, media, and sponsorship money is enormous for the ongoing stability of clubs.
