I know I've said this before, but I've gotten a few emails this summer that made me think I need to say this again. I will NOT work with anyone who uses genAI. I will not accept AI generated images, emails, videos, suit descriptions, etc. If I catch these things being submitted

People really seem to be confused about what copyright law means and what it means for the artist to own the art they create, and what rights a client has to said created art. So here's a quick thread on it:

Since the artist owns the rights to the work they create- this is why it is not ok for you as the client to make modifications to the art, make prints to sell, feed it into AI etc. UNLESS you have specific permission from the artist. Hope this knowledge helps.

As a side note, people who bring up "work for hire laws" as a defence to this whole drama, that applies to ie working for Disney - not work such as furry commissions. It has to be specified in the contract that the client is purchasing the commercial rights to the work created.

To all the people saying "well i'll only commission artists that give me 100% rights to the art" - be prepared to either pay commercial rates or artists just not taking your money. Unless otherwise stated the artist has copyright over the individual artworks they create.

This applies even to paid work, unless the contract states the copyright is given to the person paying for the art. Copyright is inherent in the creation of art, it doesnt need to be applied for and AUTOMATICALLY GOES TO THE ARTIST.
