I care about strangers because the people I love are strangers in the world and I would hope other people would care for them in moments of their life that occur outside of my presence. Not that complicated.

Since LA is on fire and part of the south is frozen, I think it’s a good time to remind everyone or tell for the first time that ChatGPT and other forms for AI are contributing to the rapid warming of our planet.

to commit to a "social first" strategy, whatever the fuck that means, is to see your audience not as readers or thinkers or people but consumers, seeking nothing more than 10,000 25-second videos that they will never remember, and that is such a dark outlook i can't take it

When you've been told for DECADES, that an English major or liberal arts degree is worthless and everyone should "learn to code," yeah, we're gonna end up with a society that thinks what writers do is easy and shouldn't be valued and AI is the solution. It's all connected!

So today, GrubHub offered $15 off orders from 11am to 2pm in NYC, which got thousands of customers to order free meals within that time window. The issue? They didn't tell restaurants & delivery workers they were doing this.

I've been reflecting on this story a lot in light of the news coming out of Kamloops. I'd tried to imagine what it'd be like to be in a family where a child never came home from residential schools. What it would take to cover up something like that. The open wound it would leave
The horrific story of the residential school find reminds me of one of the great recent short stories, @WordsandGuitar's "Unearth." Don't think it's online, but it's part of @rgay's 2018 Best American Stories & is well worth seeking out. @PedagogyAmLitSt
