“It was one of those moments where you remember exactly where you were.” These were the heartfelt and poignant words of Steve Hamilton, as he reflected on the Aberfan disaster. Steve was a 12-year-old boy who saw his GP father step up to assist in the mammoth rescue effort for the area.

At around this time 60 years ago, heartbreakingly the village of Aberfan was changed forever. This devastating tragedy remains etched in our memories. We today remember the 144 people, including 116 young children, who lost their lives in this horrific tragedy, leaving families and an entire community truly devastated. The grief endured by their loved ones is beyond words.

Today, I joined the Urgent Statement on drought conditions & raised the very real concerns experienced by my constituents which covers parts of #MidSussex, #Lewes & #Wealden Districts 🚨 The Environment Agency declared we're in severe drought. This alongside wider challenges of water & food security, my constituents are continuing to report the reality of ongoing leaking pipes, water outages, low flow, & concerns for future disruption to their supplies 🗣️ We need practical investment, joined-up planning & effective delivery & crucially, partnership 💧 Our communities deserve reliable water supplies,a resilient network & peace of mind that when they turn on the tap, water will be there I will continue to raise these concerns

Not for the faint hearted and you are always ‘a bit thick.’ When people don’t agree. And that’s fine. But I will take 1 round of applause and some random ranting about our first female PM Lady Thatcher 💙and moaning about the 80s as a decent night of survival on a panel on the telly. My dad was a huge fan and it’s still amazing to be on. Thank you to Fiona, the panel and all in beautiful Brecon and we had lovely people to chat to afterwards from the very engaged audience which is how it should be.
