Same story, different day for workers in Kansas corrections. While this outcome appears to be better than past incidents - we ask once again: What will it take for staffing & worker safety to be a priority at KDOC? @AFTkansas @AFTunion @AFT_PE @rweingarten #ksleg
Replying to @AFTkansas
Update: As of approximately 10:25pm, A Unit has been secured and inmates returned to their cells with minimal resistance.

New article from @KansasReflector on SB511 where legislators are considering silencing your voice and telling you how to spend your money: kansasreflector.com/2022/03/…
🚨 BAD BILL ALERT! 🚨
The #ksleg is once again trying to silence workers and take away your freedom of speech and freedom of choice. SB 511 is all about the government telling you how to spend your paychecks and mandates anti-union propaganda.
Chronic understaffing is a direct threat to job safety. We need the #ksleg and KS State Agencies to fund immediate and long-term solutions NOW, before anyone else gets hurt. cjonline.com/story/news/stat…
Great piece from @KOSEUnion Prez @MsLaFrenzKS: "Public pensions are a promise. They are a promise to the hard-working public employees across Kansas who dedicate their lives to serving our communities." #ksleg kansas.com/opinion/guest-com…

BIG WIN!
The new pay plan for state workers at 24/7 facilities has been approved. This new plan gives major wage increases to some of the most overworked and underpaid essential workers in Kansas. A big thank you to everyone who helped bring this to pass! governor.kansas.gov/wp-conte…
Staffing shortages at KDOC facilities are the worst they've ever been. @KSCorrections and the #ksleg must act now to fix these problems. kcur.org/news/2021-11-09/the…
On Wednesday, 3 November, a corrections officer was assaulted by an inmate at Lansing Correctional Facility. Below is our statement here in full as well as links to news coverage. We wish Ms. Bindel a full and speedy recovery. ks.aft.org/news/assault-larn…
Press Release from @AFTkansas:
This week, the LCC approved a 5% pay increase for staffers. State employees were denied a 2.5% raise in this year's session. It's past time to do right by these essential workers. #ksleg

A hospital in Idaho called my hospital asking if they could fly an intubated patient to our ICU because they have no ICU beds open due to covid. We were the closest hospital with at least one open ICU bed. From Idaho. We are in CT.
Our members have kept this state on track during COVID & risked their lives on the daily. Can’t say the same for many of their elected reps. #ksleg #2022Elections #WeSeeYou #KOSEStrong @rweingarten @AFT_PE @AFTunion @AFTNM @AFTCT @ColoradoAFT @AFTKS

KOSE and AFT-Kansas joint statement on @GovLauraKelly's plan for reopening state agencies. #ksgov #ksleg
Given the wide availability of the COVID-19 vaccines and the safety precautions and flexibility of the policy, the Kansas Organization of State Employees and AFT-Kansas support the governor's reopening plan for state agencies.
The plan allows for agencies to determine their own remote work policies and accommodations and includes thoughtful workplace protections for health risks the virus poses to state workers and their families.
