We recently published our experience with VNS in epilepsy with eyelid myoclonia (EEM), formerly Jeavons syndrome. A rare epilepsy syndrome, with ~80% patients with drug-resistant epilepsy.
Grateful for mentorship of @KMSmithMD and everyone who contributed.

Identifying patients with #GAD65 antibody–associated epilepsy is important due to its drug resistance, lower rate of satisfactory surgical outcomes, and potential responsiveness to immunotherapy.

This is an important paper.
➡️GAD epilepsy is distinctive. ➡️At multiple levels including demographics, comorbidities, semiologies and - as sadly I commonly see in clinical practice - lack of seizure Rx responses.

How should we treat pts with #EEM (Jeavons syndrome)?
•1st line: valproate, levetiracetam, lamotrigine
•2nd line: ethosuximide, clobazam
•3rd line: other #ASMs
*Avoid Na channel blockers (except for LTG)
