DID YOU KNOW....? The closest thing to a supersoldier in classical mythology is almost certainly Achilles, a primary hero of the Trojan War. Known for his speed and unmatched battle prowess, he had a mortal father (Peleus) and divine mother (Thetis). Achilles is said to have been virtually invulnerable – except for his heel – due to a special process carried out by Thetis when he was a baby. He was idolised by other Greek warriors, despite his young age and never being tested in battle before the army sailed for Troy. In Final Fantasy VII, Sephiroth is considered to be the greatest SOLDIER of the modern age, commonly identified as the hero of the Wutai War. It is eventually revealed that he was born to human parents, although he'd been injected with Jenova cells while still in his mother's womb, enhancing his biology to superhuman levels. Intriguingly, despite the fame and propaganda surrounding him as a teen, Ever Crisis verifies that Sephiroth had never been on a field mission prior to the events at Rhadore. This – among many other things – deepens his parallels with Achilles.
