I can’t stand this idea that players expressing themselves only means dribbling.
Is making good decisions not self-expression? Is enjoying passing not self-expression? What about kids who love playing goalkeeper? Or kids who love defending?
Why does self-expression have to look the same for every player?
Dribbling is one way to express yourself. Passing, defending, goalkeeping, movement, and decision-making are others.
Pay to play is the problem. Too much travel is the problem. Coaches are the problem. The system is the problem…
Maybe.
So when those players enter quality academies with good coaching, competition and resources, they’re building on an already strong foundation.
We’re often trying to build the foundation AND the house at the same time.
⚽️ Parents, just because your kid is playing 5v5 on a hard court with a futsal ball in a so called “futsal league” doesn’t mean they’re actually playing futsal.
Futsal is a different game, with its own rules, tactics, movements, & way of playing. Know the difference.
⚽️Parents, the goal is for your kids to love the game⚽️. So make ⚽️ part of your family’s life.
Even if it’s just once a week, find some time to simply kick the ⚽️ around together.
Some of their best memories with the game might come from those simple moments.
⚽️Parents, if your kid constantly looks over at you while they’re playing, that’s an issue.
If they’re playing for your approval instead of their own, consider not going to the games for a while.
The goal is a kid who can play without looking to the sideline for validation.
⚽️ Parents, goal setting matters!
With the new season approaching, help your player grow by setting clear standards from the start.
Standards for:
How they approach training. How they compete in games, and how they deal with setbacks.
⚽️Parents, this upcoming season, stop & think.
Before you start complaining about your kid’s team losing, stop & think.
Before you confront the coach about playing time, stop & think.
Before you lose it on your kid about how they played, stop & think.
Thinking brings clarity.
⚽️Parents, teach your child to embrace pressure & competition!
Too many kids struggle with being told that someone else may be better than them.
In many parts of the world, kids learn very early that opportunities aren’t guaranteed. Keep this in mind for the upcoming season.
Many ⚽️parents are afraid to work with their kids because they think they don’t know enough.
⚽️Parents, you don’t need to know tactics or techniques. Just spending 10–15min a day kicking the ball back and forth with them can have a huge impact.
Your engagement matters more!
⚽️Parents, help your player become more confident & take more ownership on the field by giving them more responsibilities at home.
The more responsibilities kids have at home, the more opportunities they have to make decisions, make mistakes, solve problems, and learn from them.
