Chicago detectives drove him to a patch of waste ground, put a sh0tgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger. Three times.
Darrell Cannon had been told in the car that they had "a scientific way of interrogating" people.
Then they took his trousers down and used a cattle prod on him.
2nd November 1983. Officers came into his family's flat and arrested him for murder.
What he says happened next, he has said publicly, in sworn statements, in court, and in print under his own name for Amnesty International.
They drove him away from the station to a secluded spot. They forced a shotgun into his mouth and pulled the trigger, letting him believe each time that it was loaded. Then they pulled his trousers down and shocked him on the genitals with an electric cattle prod.
He confessed.
He has written one sentence about why that answers every question anybody has ever asked about false confessions: he confessed because he wanted it to stop.
He served twenty-four years. His conviction was eventually thrown out and the charges dropped in 2007.
He was one of more than a hundred Black men tortured by detectives under Commander Jon Burge in Chicago between about 1972 and 1991. Electric shock. Suffocation. Guns in mouths. Radiator burns.
Burge was fired in 1993 and never tried for torture, because the statute of limitations had expired. He was convicted in 2010 of lying about it, served four and a half years, and kept his police pension until he died.
As Cannon has put it: not one officer has been convicted for the torture itself.
In 2015 Chicago became the first city in America to pass reparations for police torture — a fund, counselling, free college for survivors and their families, and a legal requirement that this be taught in Chicago public schools.
They had to legislate it into the curriculum. Otherwise it would have gone.
Darrell Cannon is in his seventies. He speaks in schools now. He tells children what happened to him in a police station in their city, because a law says somebody has to.
Darrell Cannon’s story exposes a chapter of American justice that cannot be understood through prison sentences alone.

BREAKING: Israeli spyware is confirmed on our phones. This should be headline news but none of our mainstream media is covering it, of course. So we will.
An Israeli ad company called Discover-Tech used ordinary online ads to plant spyware on people’s devices, and nobody had to click anything. The ad just had to load on a website or inside an app for you to be infected.
Citizen Lab and the ad security firm Confiant published the findings yesterday. Researchers went through roughly 4 billion ad-bidding records and found Discover-Tech ads running on more than 120,000 websites and 70,000 apps between March and June of this year. Confiant says the company was serving at least 10 million ads a day.
The platform was called Controlium. According to Citizen Lab, it let spyware companies use ad auctions to profile and unmask users, then send an infected ad to the one person they wanted to hack. The ads were also pulling cookies and login tokens from the sites they ran on. Israeli corporate records list Dekel Boni as the company’s founding director and sole shareholder.
The main spyware customer was Candiru, the Israeli firm the U.S. government blacklisted in 2021, which now goes by Integrity Labs. Five years after that blacklisting, it was still reaching devices through ad inventory on Google, Comcast-owned Beeswax and Russia’s Yandex. Google had Discover-Tech on its approved vendor list from 2020 until this week.
At least 45 Al Jazeera devices were targeted in 2024 and 2025. Candiru’s 2021 shareholder filings reportedly listed a minority investor described as a proxy for Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund, and Qatar also funds Al Jazeera. If that holds up, Qatari state money was sitting inside the company whose spyware was later aimed at Qatar’s own news network.
The heaviest targeting was in the Palestinian territories, where Discover-Tech served almost 2% of all digital ads and about 10% on April 7. Traffic also reached the Armenian prime minister’s office, courts, universities and defense organizations.
Google and the other ad platforms cut Discover-Tech off after the report came out. What nobody has answered yet is who paid for the ad buys, and how a company working with a U.S.-blacklisted spyware vendor passed vendor review for six years.
I am going to look into this today to see if we can figure out who was buying the ads. Interesting timing considering my article yesterday....
Here's what to do to protect yourself:
(1) Use an ad blocker. Citizen Lab calls ad-blocking a cybersecurity best practice and says there is no consistently safe way to be exposed to targeted ads. On iPhone, add a Safari content blocker. On Android, use Brave or Firefox with uBlock Origin. Ad blockers only work in your browser, not inside apps, so it also helps to delete free ad-supported apps you don’t need.
Kill your advertising ID.
(2) iPhone: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking, and turn off “Allow Apps to Request to Track.” Then Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Advertising, and turn Personalized Ads off.
(2) Android 12 or later: Settings > Privacy > Ads > Delete Advertising ID. Then in Settings > Google > All Services > Privacy & security > Ads > Ads privacy, turn off Ad topics and Ad measurement.
(3) Windows 11: Settings > Privacy & Security > General, and turn off personalized ads using your advertising ID.
(4) Update your phone and restart it often. Many zero-click exploits don’t survive a reboot, so a daily restart forces attackers to reinfect you.

🚨 An Illinois man accused of plotting a white-supremacist mass shooting allegedly told a coworker his rifle jammed, sent video of the weapon failing to fire, and discussed trying again after fixing it.
Investigators believe a Hindu place of worship may have been the intended target.

Alexandros Paporakis, 19, was arrested October 11 after two coworkers reported alarming statements and communications to police.
According to prosecutors, Paporakis openly identified as a white supremacist, frequently discussed Nazi ideology, and expressed hatred toward people of Indian descent.
He allegedly told a coworker he wanted to kill Indian people and was planning an attack at a Hindu temple in the Aurora area.
The following day, prosecutors say Paporakis reported that his gun had malfunctioned and he had fled the area. He then allegedly sent video showing an AR-style rifle failing to fire, along with a photograph of himself wearing tactical gear.
Investigators also recovered an eight-page manifesto promoting white-supremacist and neo-Nazi beliefs.
According to prosecutors, the document described plans for mass violence, and Paporakis claimed he had been planning an attack for two years.
A search of his residence uncovered a rifle, loaded magazines, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, body armor and items displaying Nazi imagery.
What makes this case especially disturbing is how openly the alleged warning signs were communicated.
Prosecutors describe racist statements at work, discussions of a possible target, and a manifesto shared with a coworker. Two employees ultimately took those threats seriously enough to contact police.
Paporakis now faces felony charges of making a terrorist threat and unlawful possession of a short-barreled rifle.
A judge ordered him detained Wednesday. His next court appearance is October 30.

What’s interesting about polls that show Israeli society is callously, overwhelmingly pro-genocide is that no US liberal zionist politician or pundit is EVER asked about this central fact. Ever. It’s just never talked about in US discourse because it’s grossly inconvenient.
Israel's elections are coming up on Oct 27. Polling suggests that Netanyahu & Eisenkot's blocks are ~ tied w/ neither one capturing a majority.
Of course, from the perspective of Palestinians, Lebanese & others in the region, there's little difference between the two, because they both echo majority Israeli Jewish opinion on topics related to Palestine, Lebanon & other countries in the region (Israeli govt policy does actually roughly reflect the will of its Jewish population).
To give you an idea of such views, I spent 3 months last year collecting & analyzing every Israeli survey since Oct 7 (over 70 were deemed reliable and used for the analysis) & compiled them all into a database with an accompanying 7,500 word write-up (the article is linked below; link to the database in the article).
A sample of the views of Israeli society is provided below w/ the range based on surveys between October 7 2023 and July 4 2025 (Israeli Jews only):
· 94% say not enough or appropriate amount of firepower was used by IDF in Gaza (only 2% to 3% say too much firepower was used)
· 78% to 93% say IDF has “performed” very good or excellent in Gaza (with 83% giving it high marks on “moral conduct”)
· 77% to 83% say Israel should not take into account suffering of civilian population when fighting in Gaza
· 77% to 82% are not distressed by humanitarian situation in Gaza
· 70% believe you should not be able to post messages on social media that express sympathy for civilians in Gaza
· 50% to 68% say Israel should not allow humanitarian aid into Gaza
· 76% to 87% believe number of Palestinian “war” casualties is justified
· 90% say Israel is doing too much or appropriate amount to “avoid” civilian casualties in Gaza (only 7% believe it’s doing too little)
· 62% to 82% support the ethnic cleansing of Gaza
