~2 years ago, when I first got engaged with @modal, I started really developing conviction that it could be a generational company.
That conviction was derived from soundbites like this from the world's best engineers - that Modal was playing a unique and pivotal role in their ability to build next gen applications.
Incredible milestone today.
Today we're announcing that Modal has crossed $1B in annualized run rate, as well as raised a $750M Series D at a $15.75B valuation, led by @Accel.
Since our Series C, usage has tripled and we’ve grown more than 15x year-over-year.
We are deeply grateful to the developers and companies building on Modal. There's still so much more to build, and we can't think of a better time to be building software.

If you’re wondering how Jev is scaling to meet insane demand they could not possibly have predicted, the answer appears to be @modal — one of only 4 subprocessors listed on trust.typesafe.ai
Jev was adopted faster than any other model in AI Gateway history.
In the first day, @typesafeai reached ~13% of teams, 2x the GPT-5.6 family and 6x Fable 5.1.

I'm not sure how many of you realize that 90%+ of the "Claude designed protein binders on its own" was just giving it Modal credentials.

We're hosting our 2nd @modal GTM Happy Hour in SF this Wednesday - if you're an AE, SA, FDE, BizDev, RevOps, GTM Engineering, we'd love to see you there!

Modal is truly incredible for (manual) research too. The big thing they get at here is that you don't pay for compute while the model is thinking/coding, and it frees it up for other people to use.
They have genuinely the best infra of any cloud company by a huge margin
Over 1 billion sandboxes have been launched on Modal.
Since launching three years ago, we've seen Modal Sandboxes become foundational to how AI is being built.
Today, teams like @Lovable, @tryramp, @cognition and more are using Modal Sandboxes to power everything from coding platforms and background agents to RL infrastructure at scale.

Over the holidays our friends at @Modal posted a great blog about how they keep a growing fleet of 20,000 GPUs healthy. In case you missed this 🎁 🧵 (1/9)
One of the best parts about working at @modal is that you get to partner with revenue-minded engineers who love to win.
i wake up every Monday excited to get back to working with @Justin_Digs on the @modal rocketship
A seller asked me in SF: "How do you pick your next sales role in AI?"
Most people focus only on upside. The better question: where can you actually have impact?
Here's my framework 🧵
Software infrastructure (@modal, Temporal, Databricks):
✅ Benefits from entire AI boom across industries
✅ Sellers can still meaningfully move the needle
✅ Better risk-adjusted returns
The key: pick general purpose platforms over point solutions.
If you're evaluating infrastructure companies, look for these 4 traits...
This pattern worked at MongoDB (cloud/NoSQL shift) and it's why I joined Modal.
The upside might not be as explosive as a vertical agent home run, but your ability to actually impact the business (and the risk-adjusted return) is often better.

A truly exciting time to be working at @modal. We are hiring across GTM in NYC, SF and Europe.
It's true – @modal has raised a $87M Series B at a $1.1B valuation to advance the future of AI infrastructure.
Thank you to @Lux_Capital, @Redpoint, @AmplifyPartners, and others.
Now more than ever, AI demands a complete reinvention of traditional compute infrastructure
Today I'm joining @Modal as their VP of Sales.
I first met @bernhardsson three years ago when I invested in Modal's Series A. Last summer I started advising on their growth. Spending time with the Erik, @akshat_b and the team made me realize this is exactly where I wanted to be.
The AI compute wave is once-in-a-generation. Every company is building AI applications, but legacy infrastructure wasn't built for this moment.
Modal has rethought compute from the ground up, and developers love it. I'm reminded of the excitement of MongoDB in 2015, except Modal is even further along: already high eight figures in revenue, thousands of happy customers, and use cases that feel like science fiction.
At MongoDB, I helped scale GTM from $50M to $1B+ and from private to public company. At Modal, I plan to do the same — only faster.
I'm hiring across sales, partnerships, and marketing. If you want to shape the next great infrastructure GTM org, please reach out.
