Those people who claim to care about constitutional values or the original meaning of the Constitution must be prepared to live with the fact that grand juries have the power to refuse to allow criminal cases to proceed.
It’s a structural limitation on government power.
I wonder how much longer House Republicans will ignore the escalating crisis at the DC federal courthouse. Not only are judges systematically undermining the president's policy agenda--often making political statements in the process--grand juries made up of Trump-hating Democrats are refusing to bring indictments sought by Trump's DOJ against criminals in Washington.
Last month, a repeat criminal named Kevontae Stewart was arrested in DC after police found him in his idling car smoking weed. When he was asked to step out of the vehicle, Steward fled and in the process dropped a loaded handgun--a no no for this convicted felon. He also was in possession of cocaine and on probation.
A DC federal grand jury, however, REFUSED to indict Steward on one count of illegally possessing a firearm as a felon. This represents another case of a DC grand jury refusing to sign off on charges brought by the Trump DOJ--something without precedent in DC.
So DC US Atty Jeanine Pirro went to DC Superior Court to secure an indictment. (This is allowed.) She then presented that indictment to Mag Judge Zia Faruqui--I've reported on his completely inappropriate and biased comments about the president and his DOJ for weeks--REFUSED to accept the indictment.
Faruqui notes the unprecedented nature of grand juries repeatedly refusing to indict--he of course thinks the blame rests with DOJ not the hyper partisans sitting on those grand juries actively endorsing criminal behavior to stick it to Trump--in his order:

Is it a bad thing that students read more contemporary authors who directly address issues like race, gender, and ideology that are particularly relevant to them? (BTW just found out I am blocked by Pinker, despite never having interacted with him.) – at Pearl River, NY

Trumps spokeswoman just confirmed Mahmoud Khalil is having his green card revoked not for committing any crime, but for being “adversarial to the foreign policy of the US”.
They’re effectively making it illegal for even lawful residents to protest arming genocide. Insanity.

This is a massive decision. Ignoring the fact that we continue to put innocent people on death row now is inexcusable. Richard Glossip had eight execution dates and three last meals. It’s time for state leaders to do something to address this gross injustice.
BREAKING: A 5-3 Supreme Court *wiped out* Okla. inmate Richard E. Glossip’s conviction and death sentence and ordered a new trial after the state confessed that prosecutorial misconduct likely tainted his 2004 trial.

This is insane. If you wonder why some of us think the rule of law is about to fall, it's this.
The U.S. Attorney for DC is not "President Trump's lawyer" and its job is not to "protect his leadership" nor prosecute people who "refuse to put America first".

So if you criticize Elon Musk, Trump’s DOJ will send you this letter. Members of Congress must have the right to forcefully oppose the Trump Administration. I will not be silenced.

This is explosive.
Mayor Adams is putting the City of New York and its people at risk in exchange for escaping charges.
As long as Trump wields this leverage over Adams, the city is endangered. We cannot be governed under coercion.
If Adams won’t resign, he must be removed.
BREAKING:
NBC News has obtained a letter from then-acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Danielle Sassoon alleging that NYC Mayor Eric Adams' attorney proposed a "quid pro quo" to Trump's Justice Department:
"Adams's attorneys repeatedly urged what amounted to a quid pro quo, indicating that Adams would be in a position to assist with Department's enforcement priorities only if the indictment were dismissed." nbcnews.com/politics/justice…

DOJ leadership has put all Public Integrity Section lawyers into a room with 1 hour to decide who will dismiss Adams indictment or else all will be fired. Sending them strength to stand by their oath, which is to support the Constitution, not the president’s political agenda. 🇺🇸

This is absolutely outrageous behavior by Bove and by Adams' lawyers. Sassoon deserves a lot of credit for how she handled this.
