Martin Luther King Jr. and Rev. Ralph Abernathy were arrested and jailed for leading peaceful protests against segregation in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963.
He argued that the word "wait" often meant "never" and that the community's resentment stemmed from fighting a sense of "nobodiness."
This #MLKday we're reminded that: “Oppressed people cannot remain oppressed forever. The yearning for freedom eventually manifests itself.” -- MLK Jr.
"Every prisoner in this room is suffering from intense homesickness. Contact is essential for us to feel there is a life to go home to. Like these women, I have a family that I used to be a central part of. Now, there are days I wonder if I even cross their mind."

Restore Justice by Gary Harrell.
"There are times when I’ve actually wondered if any of my work would receive recognition, now my spirit is renewed and I shall strive to maintain a high level of quality work now and in the future...
I combine printmaking with other kinds of art forms." Gary Harrell is a JAC network artist, formerly incarcerated artist, and co-founder of Shower Works, a non-profit based in California which aims to bring free, warm showers to the unhoused community of Sacramento, CA.
In the Art and Agency zine we share how language has power and why we choose to use language in ways that respect and care for one another. This resonated a lot with artists inside #artandagencyfeedback
