I'm thrilled to announce my book "AI for the Rest of Us" is out! Why another AI book? - There are fantastic books for people who code - There are rich textbooks for folks with a technical background But what about the rest of us? That's where this book comes in...

In two days, my book "AI for the Rest of Us" hits the shelves But how did this book transform from a foggy open-ended concept into a tangible guide? Throughout the writing process, I kept my goal in sight by repeatedly asking myself these 5 simple questions...

Intelligence doesn't take you out. It's the arrogance. It's the unyielding conviction in one's intelligence applied to the real world that does. This is the flaw of academia. Convincing students they can learn and remember everything they need to know. Real life is emergent.

Recently, my team put me on a new project. And by thinking like a beginner student, my fear was over in a flash. I asked lots of questions to understand as much as I could and my fear quickly gave way to excitement. In less than a week, I shipped my first feature.

I loved this edition Alvin, not just the positive message, which was awesome, but also the actionable advice on how to get to a better place when we are down.

"There is no fruit which is not bitter before it is ripe." – Publilius Syrus Speed tends to be our de-facto criteria. But it's often the wrong one when it comes to developing teams and people, including ourselves. There's a difference between clock time and human time.
Some processes can't be rushed.

I made my first ever animation! For those interested in software design or software architecture this is a 3-minute short about the Saga microservice pattern with an orchestrator. I'll provide a video transcript in a quote tweet soon.

People complain (rightfully so) about Apple/Google 30% marketplace fees to sell digital goods, but Amazon’s is 65% for eBooks above $10. Margins are larger on that platform if one sells a $20 paperback than a $20 digital copy. It doesn’t make sense.

Some companies tell you to train on your own time and then they'll reimburse you later. That's not good enough ...especially if they often ask you to work overtime. Companies need to dedicate time for continuous learning, which means it must be part of the budget.

Hehe a lot of companies preach for continuous learning, but they don't invest time to reflect, and train their people. Tawk is cheap.

Great advices by @JustSomeDev Taking the initiative and being proactive it's the way to improve.
As a senior developer, I'm often asked by juniors what they can do to "level up." One way is to take initiative. Reach out to your teammates. Help make their lives easier. What does this mean? 👇👇 1/8

Friends, this holiday season, try to reach out to those who have little of no friends, no family, and no reason to cheer. They may be involuntarily stuck in a state of loneliness. They don't need your money; they don't need your gifts. Maybe just a little bit of attention.

It's ok when you don't know if there are any customer that would pay for it and don't have any clue of what is going to change. But as @LBacaj said if you start to have to maintain the code you need start implementing professional software practices.

Check this out. I'm gonna simplify a 7-line Python function into 2 lines. In fact, it might even DISAPPEAR! I came across this pagination function online that returns the total number of pages (e.g. in a catalog) given # items per page and total items. 1/7
