"Our new and beautiful Greenland"? Let's fact-check that.
1️⃣ Greenland BANNED new oil and gas licences in 2021. The ban is still in force.
2️⃣ There is ONE oil project, Jameson Land, which only exists because its licences predate the ban. And it's not "getting ready to begin". It's DELAYED. Greenland's government blocked drilling this winter. Earliest hope for permits: winter 2027–28.
3️⃣ The Texas company behind it has already broken the rules twice:
- Shipped ~30 containers, a bulldozer and an excavator WITHOUT permission → "strong warning"
- Two days later, field surveys WITHOUT approval → written reprimand
Moving the gear to the drill site? Refused. It sits at the airport for ~$15,000 a week.
4️⃣ The company claims up to 13 billion barrels. Greenland's own experts estimated ~350 million. Even with a find: 5–10 years to production.
5️⃣ The September security deal gives the US military rights. Not Greenland's oil, gas or minerals.
Greenland is not "new". It is not "ours". It belongs to the Greenlandic people. 🇬🇱
