I think we need to have a serious talk about the artists on here, specifically the ones that consistently work with VTubers. I am the last person who wants to be negative in my own space but the last 6 months Iโve experienced stressful business that can only be defined as disrespectful and violently unprofessional.
I have commissioned a couple of dozen (20-30?) artists in the last months. Big and small. I have been a fan of, and genuinely believe them to have immense talent. But of those artists, almost ALL of them were completely silent after taking my payment and did not EVER send me a message, update, or any sort of communication even while being severely late or breaking their own TOS and set agreements with me. I had to beg to be acknowledged 4-10 times during these purchases. But even after begging, I was met with lies, more ignoring, rushed pieces that were already late, or yes, just straight up shockingly late pieces.
I have given every single person I ever worked with their full compliments and 5 star ratings regardless, in fear of upsetting any artist, or being seen as rude. As a customer and VTuber, artists are the backbone of the community and I do not exist without them. Reputation is everything and I donโt want ANYONE to feel ill after working with me. So, I grit my teeth and endure. That does make me apart of the problem. I rarely speak up or adjust my rating to see fit. I am extremely small, poor, & have NO artistic talent. I must live within the ability of everyone I work with, through mutual respect and agreements. But at the same time, I have never felt as broken, ignored, ghosted, and damn near scammed since I begun working with these VTuber Artists. Scamming is a lot less common now that large profiles and portfolios exist. However, no one ever talks about how it was replaced with unprofessional behavior, lies, ghosting, having to message them once a month to make sure you exist to them, and sketches taking half a year to complete. I hate whining. Iโve been silent because I LOVE these artists. But the truth is, I donโt think they really treat it like a job (even though you pay them.) Just taking money, and caring about the rest later. If it was 1, or 2 or hell even only 10 people who did this to me I could bear it. But the fact that nearly 90% of the people Iโve encountered an issue with or been ignored by shows itโs heavily normalized.

I hate that I just tweeted about the exact situation, then later find out someone I thought so highly of falls under the same despicable category. It goes beyond โunprofessionalโ. This is lying, manipulation, and well. As I said, scamming. Please donโt believe whatever โdefensesโ you read so easily. When you use adult logic with your adult mind (and donโt coddle grown folks,) you see how full of shit people are when they get caught. And how many inconsistencies and shitty things there are when people serial scam.

I didnโt expect to make ripples in so many communities.. but I supposed I did get what I asked for, a โserious talkโ! thank you for the support, and lots of general advice. I donโt know why I only get followers when I passionately rant, but I guess a lot of people could relate to my words. ๐
I appreciate the comments a lotโEven the ones blaming me heh. I wonโt be commissioning anything for a long time, I just wanted to express my thoughts. I requested to cancel pretty much all pieces that were still pending. However, Iโm happy to see the artists pridefully showing off their communication skills and promoting themselves (in their own space, not mine plz).
A old saying that rings true for me is โOnly spend money online that you are okay with losing.โ With digital goods itโs always a risk right? Gift card codes, In-game purchases, random artists across the worldโฆ Everything intangible and on the internet isnโt completely secure. I hope everyone can maybe be more.. chattier? At the very least. In a perfect world, I wish that every artist sends a minimum of an update per line stroke!
In all seriousness, this blew up. But Iโm happy to be the source of a conversation about a frustrating issue. I will communicate better in the future too. And less 5 stars to people who might not deserve itโฆ I hope that artists will choose not just โget byโ with sending a response to customers questions, but rather PROACTIVELY be ahead. Send messages about scheduling, lineart, openings, delays, finishing touches, etc. Yes it might add a little more pressure to the artist but itโs a JOB. A paid service with money and clients.
But what do I know.. Iโm not the one buying right now. Hope everyone can get their needs met no matter who you are!

Iโm the most understanding, positive, and easily pleased person out there. One message goes such a long way. Just telling me you need to push the date, or mistakenly took on many clients and will adjust accordingly, or that you need a small break before continuing would mean the world to me at this point. The taking the money and doing what you please (these pieces arenโt cheap!!) is so sad. I feel like the guise of the โdeadlineโ is just to get me in the door, not an actual promise.
I wanted to get that off my chest. I go silent because I fear if I say something negative, people wonโt want to work with me. Or think Iโm harsh or pickyโฆ but I just want to feel seen.
Please donโt recommend or promote under this. This was a post with feelings of neglect and frustration, not a request for help. I am not looking for art. I have so many pending pieces that havenโt received care in months. I pretty much gave up. (I am dirt poor & dried up LAWL.) Not to mention, the vouching does not really work on me anymore TwT The whole point is, no matter who has dozens of thousands of followers, shiny 5 star reviews, worked with the biggest creators, and get recommended to you over and over, they all can (and will) treat you however they feel like at the time.
