Queen Square, Bristol. Fantastically preserved square that makes you retain a sense of a booming port city. Mixed use offices of merchants, bankers, lawyers coming to ply their trade.

The most obvious case for outsourcing for ad hoc employment advice, otherwise they’ll make up work for themselves without any awareness of the business impact. A trend that’s likely to gain traction.
You don’t need HR. It is the definition of a bullshit job.

I love image generation models that show how easy it is to make buildings beautiful again. Obviously the cost isn’t a factor vs reality but we really did lose our way with civic pride in the post-war boom.
What? What??? I'm sorry, couldn't hear you over HOW EPIC THIS TRAIN STATION IS 🚂🚃

Property vs stock market is a binary for most in the U.K. (if at all). Will the scarcity of property mean its value is preserved? Will the market be a rising tide and lift all boats? Easy to feel like the market is the answer but the safe haven of property will be attractive
TL;DR: Owning assets is no longer optional. You have about 3 to 4 years to stack wealth and build real distribution. Once AI takes over half of cognitive work, selling your hours on a laptop won't protect you. In an AI economy, pure salaries get crushed while asset owners capture the entire upside. Own equity, businesses, or real-world reach before the window shuts.

September - fresh beginnings. My favourite time of year to take stock. Aided by almost nailing the latte art this morning.

Best European cities in no particular order. London, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Athens… did I miss any from the top 5?

Spent a few days in the Netherlands. Up there with one of the most effective, successful countries given its size. Punches above its weight. Well connected. Places that make you want to be outside in.

Amsterdam’s such a liveable city. Flushing out tourists en masse with hefty city taxes, banning cruise ships etc. Fascinating to see how this changes the city

GWR has by far the finest livery in the British railway fleet. I hope GBR isn’t plastered all over them - they’re already quintessentially British!

Elitism? Classism? Does the education system have to own this one? It took me over 10 years of being in the world of work to realise a Northern accent doesn’t equal less capable…

It’s something so simple and no cost: a hallmark of Burnham’s government. Rayner has the opportunity to create a real legacy… just play around with AI on your local high street to see the power!
Imagine if councils could set very clear design standards for shopfronts. Provided the standard is met, no planning permission is required. @andyburnham

The @paulg essay on cities and ambition sums it up pretty well. paulgraham.com/cities.html Not for everyone admittedly, but it’s nice to think of cities as markets that bring like-minded people together.

Can’t help but feel the Isle of Man is underutilised strategically. Well-protected & sheltered, abundant cooling for energy and within relative close distance of all major economic centres of the U.K. & Ireland.
Ideally, you'd want to an island nation - not too big, but not too small. Surrounded by seas that are cool but don't freeze, with its major cities not too far from the coast. Plus solid bedrock and low seismic risk. Such a perfect country would obviously go all in on nuclear...
