The third and last study of my PhD is now published in @SciReports! We limited visual input during visual search by using a naturalistic digital flashlight similar to classic contingent window paradigms, and measured effects on incidental memory. 1/4

#SIPS2024 is starting and I’m so grateful to be here in Nairobi and have the chance to meet so many like-minded people who want to improve science 🥰 @improvingpsych
I feel deeply ashamed to have published my first PhD paper in an MDPI journal. Back then, I didn’t know better and neither did my co-authors. There was a special issue (ofc) which fit my research perfectly. Many people are still unaware of MDPI’s problematic publishing practices.
I know that my study was of high quality and I did everything to the best of my knowledge. But it doesn’t deserve to be published among shady research & by publishing proper research there, we foster the shady stuff and their publishing model. Never again. doi.org/10.3390/brainsci1101…

We are undertaking a new study exploring how well the neuroscience community can predict the replicability of EEG research and we would like to contribute your expertise. Please sign-up via this link: sse.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/S…
We also compared the procedure between both VR and 3D desktop screen settings and found only slight differences. This indicates that the screen setup could elicit comparable behavior as in VR. More research is needed to dive into the nuances and underlying processes 3/4
Lastly, I’m really grateful for my colleagues @SceneGrammarLab who made this study happen and allowed me to include photographs of myself in a figure. Look mom, I’m a model in a scientific paper! 💁♀️ 4/4

I encountered this issue several times and people were not aware of it. Changing the default and/or having clearer instructions in the G*Power app directly could prevent researchers accidentally ending up with too small and low-powered sample sizes for interaction effects.
