AI can make work faster, but a fear is that relying on it may make it harder to learn new skills on the job. We ran an experiment with software engineers to learn more. Coding with AI led to a decrease in mastery—but this depended on how people used it. anthropic.com/research/AI-as…

Open source community Mixamo alternative Mesh2Motion is getting support for driving character movement with "root motion" In your games, you can use that to drive the character movement exactly like how your animators designed it. Godot also supports this feature.
Just finished coding the support for animations to have root motion. Good for uneven movement. This will be in the next release for Mesh2Motion. They will have "RM" at the end of the animation name.

If this Karpathy interview doesn't pop the ai bubble, nothing will. 10 brutal quotes: 1. LLMs don’t work yet They don’t have enough intelligence, they’re not multimodal enough, they can’t use computers, and they don’t remember what you tell them. They’re cognitively lacking. It’ll take about a decade to work through all of that. 2. When you boot them up, they always start from zero They have no distillation phase, no process like sleep where what happened gets analyzed and written back into the weights. 3. What’s stored in their weights is only a hazy recollection of the internet It's just a compressed blur of 15 trillion tokens squeezed into a few billion parameters. Their context window is just short-term working memory. 4. They’re good at imitation, terrible at going off the data manifold Too much memory, not enough reasoning. We need to strip away the memorized knowledge and keep the cognitive core: the algorithms, the magic of intelligence, problem-solving, strategy. 5. We’ve probably recreated a cortical tissue, pattern-learning and general, but we’re still missing the rest of the brain No hippocampus for memory. No amygdala for instincts. No emotions or motivations. 6. They memorize perfectly but generalize poorly If you give them random numbers, they can recite them back. No human can do that. That’s the problem: humans forget just enough to be forced to find patterns. 7. Anything truly new, code that’s never been written before, ideas that have no template; they stumble They’re still autocomplete engines with perfect recall and no understanding. Until we find that cognitive core, intelligence stripped of memory but full of reasoning, they’ll stay brilliant mimics, not minds.

Just do the thing. Don't do the thing because you think it'll make you better at something else. If it does, great. If it doesn't, even greater. One thing doesn't have to be in service of another thing. Don't spoil the parts by trying to make them the whole.

Nick Clegg recently told The Times that asking artists for permission to use their work would ‘kill’ the AI industry. thetimes.com/uk/technology-u… Our response:

There was a day when memory was the leading cause of security problems But today folks we are about to step into a new future, a future where everyone can contribute to security vulnerabilities

It’s why. It’s why we start companies. It’s why we assemble teams. It’s why we pick up tools. It’s why we create. It’s why we struggle. It’s why we wonder if it’s all worth it. It’s why we push. It’s why we claw. It’s why we reach. Why? To get somewhere. But sometimes we get stuck. Sometimes we wonder if there’s anywhere worth going. Sometimes we question why it’s worth it. Then we remember. To get somewhere. To get somewhere good. To get somewhere better. To get others somewhere. To get us somewhere. To get somewhere. It’s why we get up in the morning. It’s why we work through the day. It’s why we do it all over again tomorrow. To get somewhere. It’s the kick. It’s the pull. It’s the drive. We just want to get somewhere. Get somewhere. Let’s go.

Recorded an hour of performance profiling of the new MegaScans Dark Ruins sample project. Wondering if people are OK with 60minutes of me rambling about optimizations or if the people demand more scripted content...Thoughts?

AI Notkilleveryoneism Memes ⏸️
@AISafetyMemes21 Jan 2025
Anthropic CEO: "What I’ve seen inside Anthropic over the last few months led me to believe that AI will surpass almost all humans at almost all tasks in 2-3 years." "I am more confident than I have ever been at any previous time." "There have been 5 or 6 times in 10 years we thought we were hitting a wall, and something slightly different was invented that let us get around it. The scaling of AI feels like a river - every once in a while it runs into a stone but it always finds a way to go around." "Throughout the 10 years I've been working in this field I've always said 'I don't know for sure, this seems like the direction it's heading in, we could be getting to human-level systems...' I still think there's uncertainty, but over the last 6 months that uncertainty for me has decreased a great deal."

5 years ago, I quit my comfy AAA job to go Indie and everyone was calling me crazy. Today, we are 2 weeks away from releasing our first indie game, Warden's Will, and I am starting to think I might actually be crazy 😅 #TrailerTuesday #indiegame #indiedev #indiegamedev

I kid you not, @itchio has been taken down by @OriginalFunko because they use some trash "AI Powered" Brand Protection Software called @BrandShieldltd that created some bogus Phishing report to our registrar, @iwantmyname, who ignored our response and just disabled the domain
