Let’s do this, y’all! Early vote from now through Halloween. (And, yes, please also keep in mind my (not so) subliminal photo message.)
Thanks to my former @NCCULAW
students Victoria Rushin and Harrison Do for having me on their all-star Women in the Law panel featuring Justice @AllisonJRiggs and Judges Doretta Walker, Dorothy Hairston Mitchell, and Shamieka LaCher Rhinehart. An amazing conversation!
Early in-person voting starts tomorrow, Thursday, October 15, in North Carolina. Make a plan to vote and don’t forget the judicial candidates on your statewide ballot!
Another weekend on the move! Rep. @ClyburnSC06 firing up the @orangedemsnc Saturday morning to an evening with friends at the Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Legends & Legacy Gala to the Mint Museum on Sunday.
Jan Allen was a hero, fighting for progressive causes & to elect pro-choice women. Thanks to @LilliansList for celebrating her legacy & honoring those—Justice @AllisonJRiggs, Senator
@DivaMurdock & Representative @PratherForNC—carrying it forward w/ the Jan Allen Courage Award.
What a treat moderating a panel of stars—Judges Joal Broun, Dorothy Hairston Mitchell, Alyson Grine & @TobyHampson4NC—discussing how courts impact people’s lives. Anybody who thinks we can’t have courts that reflect the strengths of our state missed out on the panel yesterday!
Honored to join @UNChumanities and @unc_law Professors Michael Gerhardt, @jain_eisha, and Eric Muller to talk about the federal Supreme Court (and the increasing importance of state courts). Hard to think of a better time with the 26-27 SCOTUS term starting next week!

The latest state budget cut off IOLTA funding (not tax dollars, a program of the State Bar) for Legal Aid and many civil legal services for low income NCians. This week, incredible women attorneys in Raleigh gathered to raise money for @LegalAidNC because we know that the 3,184 domestic violence protective orders secured in 2025 with civil legal aid grants from the NC IOLTA program *saved women's lives* - it was an honor to join the Top 50 Women Super Lawyers in this effort.

In honor of Dolly Parton’s life and work, it is an honor to proclaim 9/25 “9 to 5 Day – or Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Day of Reading.”
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has helped millions of children discover the joy of reading, including more than 240,000 children across North Carolina. Her generosity has also made a difference for families in western North Carolina recovering from Hurricane Helene.
Dolly has left an incredible mark on our state and on generations of children, and it’s an honor to recognize her legacy.
Always a blast to join friends old and new celebrating the #LGBTQ community at the Equality North Carolina Gala. Great event and well done, Eliazar Posada-Orozco and Equality team!

Wishing all those observing Yom Kippur a meaningful day of reflection, prayer, and renewal.
May you have a peaceful and meaningful fast and a good and blessed year.
The North Carolina Mock Trial Program is awesome—giving high school students from across the state a chance to hone their powers of persuasion. So it was a treat to wish them luck (especially the Broughton High team!) and say a few words at the kick-off of their 2026-27 season.
“The question is whether students’ constitutional right to a sound basic education is real or a paper promise.”
Thanks to Carolina Law @acslaw
chapter for hosting discussion of NC Supreme Court decision ending Leandro litigation (but not the fight for quality public schools).
Judge Christine Walcyzk was made in a lab to serve on the state Court of Appeals. Temperament, smarts, experience—she’s got it.
Wonderful to have the chance to introduce her today at @orangedemsnc gathering. Remember the Democratic Court of Appeals candidates this fall!

Tonight marks the first night of Rosh Hashanah. This new year is the perfect time for us to reflect on the values of teshuvah and tikkun – repentance and repair. Our faith calls us to stop our transgressions and apologize for them and to do our part to make a difference and leave the world better than we found it.
To all those celebrating the new year across North Carolina, may you have a happy, healthy, sweet and peaceful new year. L’Shana Tova!

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the first responders who ran toward danger to protect others.
Today, we honor their memories and the courage of the Americans who came together in the face of unimaginable tragedy. We will never forget.
Thirtieth NelsonFL fantasy football draft weekend in the books (and we survived)! Happy Labor Day, y’all!

Flags across North Carolina will be at half staff through September 10 in honor of Gloria Steinem.
Steinem was a powerhouse journalist and advocate for freedom and equality. Her work inspired so many and helped women in the United States and across the world make real strides. And when women succeed, families and communities are stronger. May her memory be a blessing.

Some people put their ideas out in the world and hope they catch on. Not Gloria Steinem.
Through her writing, her speeches, and her organizing, she demanded that the world pay attention to all the ways that women had been — and in some cases, still are — treated unfairly. And she helped awaken us to problems like domestic violence, the lack of affordable child care, and unfair hiring practices that had too often been ignored or overlooked.
Gloria really was larger than life. Today, generations of women are walking a little taller and aiming a little higher because of what she fought for and achieved. Michelle and I are thinking of her family today, and everyone — women and men — who were inspired by her towering example.

Gloria Steinem was one of the most influential figures in modern American history. As a journalist, she used her pen to write stories that would inform the world about women, our status, our lives, bodies and more. What a great soul. Rest in power dear friend. We shall miss you.
