I am transitioning my X account to bluesky. I don’t want authors I’ve mentioned in my new project not to know about it, so please follow me there at @jsanchez-taylor.bsky.social. And here’s the pre-order link for Dispelling Fantasies: ohiostatepress.org/books/tit…
Having the best time at VICFA, the virtual conference arm of @IAFA_TW. I also got the opportunity to share the amazing cover for my forthcoming book Dispelling Fantasies, which will be out in July 2025! Credit to Black Kirby: @JIJennings and Stacey Robinson and @ohiostatepress.
I am so excited that my review of @RSAGarcia's The Nightward is out @strangehorizons today! Warning: there are a few spoilers in terms of plot and structure. If you like Caribbean-set SFF novels, this one is for you: strangehorizons.com/non-fict…
This is so sad. I hate seeing authors I admire struggle because of the exploitative systems of publishing. If publishing genre fiction continues to be a hardship for authors, which voices will be left out?
I am very excited to announce that my second book project, Dispelling Fantasies: Authors of Color Reimagine a Genre, will be published by Ohio State UP in July 2025!!! Thank you to everyone who helped me crowdsource for authors, titles, and other related items.
This looks like an interesting read: rutgersuniversitypress.org/t…

I am working on edits for the new book. I have 1200 words left and way too much to add! I've never been the most verbose author, so this is a very new experience for me. I may have to make cuts. I don't know how my wordy author friends handle such stress 😅
I'm behind in my reading, as always, but I want to shout out @LyszFlo's amazing essay in FIYAH #25 “The Magic is in the Roots: Cultural Reconnection Through Magical Realism.” Just quoted it for the introduction of my new book project!

Exploring science fiction from Spanish-speaking parts of the #Caribbean and their diasporas, TROPICAL TIME MACHINES shows how writers, filmmakers, musicians and artists use the language of #scifi to comment on the region’s history and its present. #UFPress floridapress.blog/2024/06/18…

ALT A copy of Tropical Time Machines: Science Fiction in the Contemporary Hispanic Caribbean by Emily A. Maguire sits ensconced in bright green tropical leaves. The cover features a technicolor, sci-fi version of a city as well as a black-and-white depiction of a woman looking to the side with large, colorful dangling earrings.
Please circulate this flyer for my online summer reading group with the @Center4Fiction. I really want to support the center because the people who organize the reading groups work hard to support speculative authors of color: centerforfiction.org/group-w…
If you love books and socializing about books, please consider signing up for the NYC Fantastic Fiction reading group I am running with @Center4Fiction. A great gift for someone who loves reading as well: centerforfiction.org/group-w…
