A significant development has now taken place concerning the continuing safety concerns surrounding the Rahon–Machhiwara Sutlej Bridge in Punjab. The condition of the bridge has been repeatedly highlighted in the media over the past year. @IndianExpress had reported in January 2026 about widening cracks and the unsafe condition of the bridge, including concerns over the continued movement of tipper trucks and heavy vehicles. The report had described the situation as a “Disaster waiting to happen.” The issue had also earlier been reported by @timesofindia, which, in August 2025, reported on an IIT Roorkee structural assessment concerning the bridge. As reported by The Times of India, the assessment indicated severe deterioration of the bridge deck and reportedly recommended dismantling of the critical span, along with an independent assessment of the sub-structure. The matter has now moved beyond repeated media reports and has reached the Punjab State Human Rights Commission. A complaint was filed before the Punjab State Human Rights Commission on behalf of Ms. Anvita Chaudhary, a resident of Machhiwara Sahib, concerning the continuing threat to the life and safety of the general public using the Rahon–Machhiwara Sutlej Bridge. The complaint was filed through Advocate Jaspreet Singh Benipal. Vide order dated 06.10.2026 in Complaint No. 15822/10/2026, the Hon’ble Punjab State Human Rights Commission has taken cognizance of the matter and directed the concerned authorities, including the Superintendent Engineer, Public Works Department, Ludhiana, and the Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, to look into the condition of the bridge, take appropriate measures and submit a report before the next date of hearing. The complaint placed before the Commission the earlier reports concerning the bridge, including the reported IIT Roorkee assessment, the Times of India report dated 25.08.2025 and the Indian Express report dated 09.01.2026. It also placed on record a representation submitted to the concerned authorities and photographs depicting the condition of the bridge. What makes the latest development significant is that the concerns regarding this bridge are no longer limited to newspaper reports or public apprehension. The matter has now resulted in formal intervention by the State Human Rights Commission, in the context of the right to life and personal safety of the travelling public under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. The bridge remains an important route connecting Machhiwara Sahib with Rahon and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahr) and is used by residents, daily commuters, commercial vehicles and other members of the public. The latest order and the continuing history of reports concerning the structural condition of the bridge may warrant a follow-up investigation/report in the larger public interest. @shariqmajeed75 - You had earlier covered the news on August 22 2025 titled “Ludhinana’s Sutlej Bridge unsafe : IIT Roorkee flags risks”

Rahon–Machhiwara Sutlej Bridge — A Disaster Waiting to Happen The condition of the Rahon–Machhiwara Sutlej Bridge, connecting Machhiwara Sahib with Rahon and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahr), is extremely concerning. The bridge has remained in a deteriorated condition for several years, with structural cracks and serious deterioration repeatedly reported. Thousands of people use this bridge every day, including residents travelling between Machhiwara, Rahon and Nawanshahr. More seriously, the bridge has reportedly been assessed by IIT Roorkee, with severe deterioration of the deck and recommendations for dismantling the critical span and assessing the sub-structure for a new design. If the bridge is known to be unsafe, why is it still being allowed to remain a risk to human life? The Punjab Government must act before, not after, a tragedy. Immediate steps are required for: • Structural safety and inspection • Implementation of the IIT Roorkee recommendations • Dismantling/reconstruction of the critically damaged portion • Strict restriction of heavy vehicles • Proper barricading and traffic safety measures • Time-bound reconstruction of the bridge This is not a political issue. It is a matter of public safety and human life. @BhagwantMann @AAPPunjab @harbhajansinghec @RaviBhagatIAS @AAPPunjab @AroraAmanSunam @AAPHarbhajan @AamAadmiParty @Laljitbhullar Do not wait for an accident to happen.

Bought this LV card holder from the LV New Delhi store in January 2026. Within just a few months, it started tearing and showing wear from the edges. Highly disappointed with the quality of a product sold by LV India, especially at this price point. To make matters worse, no resolution has been offered to date. @LouisVuitton @BernardArnault @LVMH

I find it extremely disappointing that when LV representatives need to make a sale, they have no hesitation in sending you 100 pictures of their products without even asking for your consent. However, when there is an issue with one of the products you have actually sold, they suddenly become unresponsive and won’t even bother to answer or provide a proper reply. This level of customer service is unacceptable, especially from LV New Delhi. The quality of these card holders is also far below what one would expect from a brand like Louis Vuitton. Selling such low-quality products and then failing to support your customers when problems arise is simply not acceptable. @LouisVuitton

Bough this card holder from LV New Delhi in Jan 2026  and the wallet suffere wear and tear issues from the edges within less than 1 year. Such condcuts makes you wanna question the quality of LV being saled in India. Such a shame! @LouisVuitton customers suffer for such products
