This is one of the worst music festival lineups I’ve seen in a while.

Meet Mary. A 71-year-old former nurse. Now homeless and living in her car. Just one of the appallingly sad cases @katywatson and I found researching homelessness and the housing crisis in Australia - one of the richest countries on earth. bbc.com/news/articles/cn09g9…

I've been writing today about the the death of Aussie astronomer Greg Quicke - 'Space Gandalf' who helped so many understand more about the universe through his "astro tours" and TV appearances including alongside @ProfBrianCox who has just paid tribute. bbc.com/news/articles/cl7744…
Very sad to learn that Greg Quicke ‘Space Gandalf’ has died. If you’re in the U.K. you’ll remember him from Stargazing Live. I love what he wrote on seeing the solar eclipse in 2023. "My body spent, my heart full, I crash into a deep eclipse fuelled communion with the other worlds," I hope that’s where he is now. abc.net.au/news/2024-06-07/b…

I'm told it's "Blueymania" at Royal Australia Mint today. All phone lines redirected to the call centre as fans clamour to buy limited edition @OfficialBlueyTV Dollar Bucks. Which explains why I couldn't get through to press office to find out if it was Blueymania at the Mint...

Papua New Guinea now says that 2,000 people were "buried alive" in Friday's landslide in Engas province. It has made the estimate in a letter to the @UN seen by the BBC. Earlier estimates put the death toll at around 670.

The letter adds: "The situation remainsunstable as the landslip continue to shift slowly, posing ongoing danger to both the rescue teams and survivors alike."

Remember all these figures can only be estimated. Nobody is close to being able to verify them at this stage. Access to the area is incredibly difficult. Rescue equipment can't get through. So while it's clear this is a terrible disaster, an accurate death toll is some way off.
