"Not every boxing book can do that, but the best ones do, and I count this as one of them." Recalling "The Troubles" in Ireland and how "the most brutal of sports... has the power to unify." Check it out: thefightcity.com/in-sunshine… #Boxing #Books #Ireland From @JoshuaIsard
At Rosh Hashanah service this morning, I got to read Torah with my daughter. Amazing way to kick off the new year.

Watched The Terminator and Terminator 2 with my kid this weekend. He thought they were awesome.
There is a particular joy in watching the movies I loved as a kid with my children, and seeing them love those movies too.
I feel like when museums close—especially ones as old and venerable as The Academy of Natural Sciences—we’re heading down the wrong path. I went here as a kid, and took my kids here. You can’t replace a museum like this.

Peter Cullen is a deserved legend for voicing Optimus Prime. But don’t overlook his work on Voltron (my personal favorite 80s cartoon). RIP.
I knew Dolly Parton was a legend, but seeing her absolutely destroy with this cover of “Stairway to Heaven”… wow. Unexpected. Amazing. RIP to one of the greatest.
Just finished Jerusalem: The Biography by @simonmontefiore. Tremendous book. Thorough, nuanced, and fair. One of the best histories I’ve read in the past few years.
Saw The Odyssey last weekend. The more I think about it, the less I like it. Yeah, it left out some of my favorite parts, but I don’t think it succeeds on its own terms.
Flat characters. Unclear motives at times. Just doesn’t add up.
I know there’s almost no chance of seeing Homeric boxing in Nolan’s Odyssey, but man, that’d be cool.
With everyone getting reacquainted with Homer and the classics, it's a good time to recall that pugilism, or what we call boxing today, goes back to the time of The Odyssey too. Check it out: thefightcity.com/boxing-hist… #Boxing #History #Odyssey From @JoshuaIsard

In honor of the 2026 #WorldCup, I’d like to post a video of my favorite ever international soccer match. 🇬🇷 🇩🇪
I cannot stop watching clips of Anika Nilles killing it as Rush’s new drummer. Somewhere, Neil Peart is smiling.
Today, the first day of summer break, my daughter and I went to the @AmRevMuseum. It is so wonderful to have raised someone who’s a nerd the way I’m a nerd.
