After the better part of a decade as General Counsel at The Daily Wire, I’ve left and started my own practice in Nashville. I joined DW as its first in-house attorney and built an entire legal function through years of extraordinary growth. It was an experience I couldn’t have gotten anywhere else, and I’m grateful to the founders and colleagues who trusted me and the attorneys who made me better. My new solo practice offers: Dealmaking: structuring and negotiating deals to set you up for success and avoid landmines without burning bridges. Outside general counsel: fractional GC services for businesses who need more than a hired gun. If you’re building a business or working in media and could use a trusted advisor, I’d love to talk. You can reach me at [email protected] or at joshherr.com.

I like when we can agree.
The amount of parsing that has to be done to what Popes say about the death penalty is already a great problem. The recent language of Pope Leo ("The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person"), which repeats the words of Francis's revised Catechism and is in some respects at least similar to John Paul II's assertion in his 1995 encyclical Evangelium Vitae (appealing to “the inviolability of human life”), appears to reject capital sentencing categorically insofar as it predicated on the assertion that intrinsic human "inviolability" and "dignity" preclude it. The "inviolability of the person" or "... of human life" is a strange phrase which, when applied to rejecting all capital sentencing, simply has no basis whatsoever in Scripture, including the teaching of Jesus. Human life is more valuable than all other life forms on earth but it is not "inviolable" to the point of canceling the death penalty for premeditated murder. Human "dignity" is not infinite. Genesis 9:5-6 should have been a red flag for these Popes, which uses the condition of humans being made in God's image as the basis for mandating the death penalty for premeditated murder rather than as a basis for rejecting it. In both Old and New Testaments the execution of divine justice is clearly treated as a good with respect to the punishment of first-degree murder. Genesis 9:6 insists on the execution of one who intentionally takes the life of an innocent person made in the image of God because to do otherwise cheapens the image bearing of the one unjustly murdered, which is an evil. Likewise, Romans 13:1-6 treats the execution of murderers as a good. The state is "a servant (diakonos) of God to you for the good." Catch that? "For the good." "For it does not bear the sword to no purpose. For it is a servant of God, requiting justice [or: an avenger, punisher] for (the purpose of executing God's) wrath on the one who does what is evil. Therefore, it is necessary to be subjected (to the state's divinely bestowed authority), not only because of the (just mentioned) wrath but also because of conscience.... For they are civil servants (leitourgoi) of God." By "conscience" Paul means that one should submit to the state's role in punishing wrongdoers (including execution of the worst offenders) because it is the right thing to do (given God's delegation of his own authority to them). Capital sentencing for first-degree premeditated murder is treated as a good not just as a deterrent or as a safety precaution against additional murders committed by an escapee or within prison walls. It is in the first instance a good as appropriate justice for the heinous taking of an innocent person's life made in God's image. The murderer will have ample time to repent and seek God's forgiveness and do acts of penance prior to execution. But such actions do not cancel the heinousness of the crime already committed or justify a cheapening of the life unjustly taken. You may disagree but then your view would depart from the witness of Scripture, including the NT witness and including Jesus.

Only Japan would do this. They didn’t ask how to adapt a boxy 64-bit world into a realistic modern game. Instead they preserved every box as a sacred diorama and meticulously rebuilt each one into a hyper-realistic set piece to put on a perfectly curated marionette show.

I’ve changed my opinion on the death penalty more than once, but I’ve always felt that a society that carries it out should have to see it, and that the method should be quick and ugly.

Boomer headline. Views men, woman, & sex through a conservative lens in which men & women are unequal participants in the act. Consent be damned; men must intervene to protect women from their own choices. It’s admirable in a sense. But that social paradigm has been torched.

Do not select your subjects from the margins of the Enemy’s ranks. Instead select those who profess zealous faith in their cause. Above all, look to recent conscripts and those whose conversions helped them rise quickly in rank.

Next, once our subject has risen the ranks to prominence, we must convince them to go independent, freed from the constraints of the Enemy’s flawed and aging lieutenants. It is best to stoke this sense of independence in both the subject’s professional and religious life.

Finally, we must ensure that the newly independent subject’s followers continue to grow. Only then should our forces press a direct attack. With a large enough audience, the subject can sustain enough direct fire to be manipulated to our ends. Your affectionate Uncle, Screwtape

My dear Wormwood, Take note of the pattern of many of our recent victories. The way must be prepared for your moral assault by making public figures of the most gifted among the Enemy’s followers. Podcasts and network shows provide fertile ground for the seed of illness.

Conservatives can enjoy left-wing critiques of left-wing follies.
Lol, Digger is many things. "Woke" is not one of them. If anything, its strongest reading is as a critique of activist artists.

This is not the macroeconomic indicator it appears to be. Single family homes in this zip code are doing fine. Nashville had a housing supply crisis during and after the pandemic, so we built a glut multi-family units. This correction was predicted and by design.
One of America's hottest downtown housing markets is now experiencing an all-out crash. Condo prices in Nashville are in free fall. On this listing, the seller bought for $699k in 2024. And is now listing at $499k. A $200k loss in a little over two years. Across the 37203 Nashville ZIP code, values are down 11% from peak on average. And I'm frequently finding seller's taking six-figure losses. This condo is now approaching its 2020 sale price ($480k), essentially erasing a majority of the pandemic appreciation. Some of these units could soon be a 'Buy'. The question is, how much lower does it go? Know how much to offer with Reventure's listing analyzer: reventure.app/listingtool/Vc…

Bessent is poised to be the most consequential Treasury Secretary since Bretton Woods. Having a little temper would be interesting for a biography but hardly newsworthy compared to what he’s trying to do to the dollar.
Scott Bessent became so angry last year that he threw his briefing book against the wall. Profanity-laced tirades. Staff who avoid the secretary at work. Dramatic firings. An exclusive deep dive inside the tumultuous Treasury department with @schwartzbWSJ, @jdawsey1, and me.

Read the critical reviews of Digger and it becomes clear that most of them are lefties who either didn’t understand the movie or understood it and didn’t like what it had to say about them.
The fact the commie hate Digger is a clear indicator it is not a leftist film
