Local, state and FEMA teams are assessing damage to determine if Alabama meets the federal assistance threshold. This process and any federal assistance heading our way will take a while! If you need help now, call 2-1-1 or text your ZIP to 898-211! MORE: bit.ly/4yWiSEe

These people in the comments have clearly not lived a life with KMXX as their closest tower.

My completely untested theory is that there is more model data than ever before, so the raw number of “bad” solutions inherently goes up. Then once the seed is planted, confirmation bias does the rest. I still marvel at how good models have gotten since I started decades ago.
I’ve seen a lot of discourse lately of “how awful the models been” Anecdotally, I’m sure there are cases where storms were forecast poorly. But is there concrete evidence of a measurable decline in performance? If so, I am not aware and would appreciate data to back this up.

This x100000000
Cole Cubelic combines ball knowledge + big game aura + SEC adjacency better than anyone (a super-majority of viewers would agree) Having him call games with 5TD spreads every week continues to be an inexplicable whiff

He’s right on the money… FYI at least one other P4 conference’s policy allows for wiggle room if there’s an on-site meteorologist.
BDS LIGHTNING DELAYS: I have done weather support at UA home games for over 15 years. I support the coaching staff/athletic department, and CTSM (Crimson Tide Sports Marketing). I am at every home game. However I am not involved in the decision to call a lightning delay; that is done by University of Alabama emergency management, who uses rules dictated by the SEC. The first lightning delay was needed (before kickoff); one strike was within a couple of miles of the stadium. The second delay (near the end of the first half) was the somewhat questionable. Yes, there was technically lightning within 8 miles of the stadium, but it was a dissipating storm near Brookwood that was fading fast. There needs to be a little “wiggle room” in situations like this so the game won’t be delayed unnecessarily. Thanks to my friends at the Crimson Tide Sports Network; I was on the air with them live at the stadium for both delays. A great way to communicate with fans and explain the weather situation.

Rules are rules and we respect them - but I don’t know a single meteorologist who would say the Alabama game needed to be delayed when it was. Leaving these decisions to automated systems with no human input is probably good for legal liability, not so good for actual results.

This won’t the last cyberattack you see in the news in Alabama - or the biggest. Are you ready?
IN THE NEWS: The Alabama Board of Nursing is working to recover from a recent cyberattack - a real-world attack just like the scenarios we covered in our most recent Ready for Anything episode. Here’s the link to the episode: youtu.be/2yHnp7MB-gA?is=J4Kn…

Hey guys official time is being kept on the field for the Florida State/SMU game but I am sure any small discrepancy between the TV broadcast and actual game clock won’t matter, right? Right?

My prediction: There are going to be some really tense conversations today between the @bigten and @NBCSports about that one second difference.

The worst part about the Eastern Michigan was there a second left on the clock play - if every player on their team had sat down at the snap, they win the game. The first Hail Mary was too deep, no one is catching that with a foot down in bounds.
