I've played 19 Top 100 @GolfDigest publics. Yale is my FAVORITE & the one I've played the most (30x) thanks to a 15-round/$1,000 deal 15ish years ago. Cannot fathom after being closed for 2 years Yale has: A. Increased the price by 500+% B. Left the course in THIS condition
Curious how people would feel paying $350 to play a (great) golf course in this condition?

Knicks are tough as nails. Bad shooting, bad whistle. But they absolutely CRUSHED them in the Josh Hart minutes.

Proud to have worked with my friend @PeteRuf12, who crafted this fitting sendoff of @HenHudAthletics AD Tom Baker -- Section 1's second longest-tenured AD after Joe Casarella. Tom had a major impact on @SecOneAthletics and will be missed by fellow ADs and the Hen Hud community.
After more than three decades in the district and serving the last 24 years as the AD, Tom Baker is set to retire from Hendrick Hudson. Tom shared his story, and reminisced about his time as a Sailor. Best wishes to Tom on his retirement! @SecOneAthletics @HenHudAthletics

Gina Maher is the best. So glad to have gotten to know her so well during my time covering basketball. She’s a great person, incredibly influential, and has had an immeasurable impact, particularly on female athletes.
BREAKING: For the first time in over five decades, there will be a new girls basketball coach at Irvington High School. Gina Maher informed her team last night that she is retiring after 50 of the most decorated, influential and inspiring seasons of any coach in the history of Westchester County sports. Yes, 50 years. Maher won a state-record 814 games, 18 Section 1 championships, six state titles and five Federation crowns. She’s in the New York State Basketball, Westchester County Sports Hall of Fames, as well as a recipient of countless distinguished career achievement awards. For Maher, it was just time. She said she spent months coming to the decision, spoke about with her sons Neil and Chris, as well as close friends. But she's ready to hand the program off to the next generation. “Fifty years is enough," Maher said. "I am ready. And we are fortunate to have two wonderful people ready to take over the program in B.J. Constantine and Kaitlin Degnan. It's time.” Maher lives one block away from Irvington High School and intends to stay close to the community. She will remain @IrvBulldogs girls tennis and the Unified basketball coach. And you will still see her at girls basketball games around the section all season. Nobody I've personally ever been around will leave a greater legacy; not to @SecOneAthletics, to @NYSPHSAA, to @sogbca, to young female athletes, or even to my own my family. If there is ever going to be a Mount Rushmore for athletics in our area, Gina Maher would be the first face on it; as a a coach, a role model, a mentor and a person. Please join me in thanking Coach Maher for her years and wishing her the best in her retirement.

Glad to be back for a second year working with Section One Athletics. I sat down this summer with the new ADs and over the next two weeks you can learn more about each new face. Remember to give Section 1 a follow on Twitter, Instagram at Facebook -- all at @SecOneAthletics!
As Section One Athletics introduces first-time athletic directors and other ADs who have moved to new schools, learn more about Michael Ramponi, who took over this spring at Eastchester. @Eagle___Nation

I'm devastated to learn of the passing of Rob Violante. I've known Rob for over 20 years, dating to his days as an assistant at Dobbs Ferry under his dad, Skip. I LOVED running into Rob at games, first his brother's games at Fox Lane or later his nephew's games at Somers.

He had really enjoyed his years coaching football at Bergenfield in NJ, but you could tell how much he enjoyed watching his nephews play in recent years for his alma mater. RIP Rob, you will be missed.

🚨 In their first year competing at nationals at Disney World, my daughter Hailey and her Eastchester cheer team finished as the RUNNER-UP at UCA Nationals today at Disney. I’m so proud of her and Eastchester team. So many hours of practice since August and it paid off! 👏 📣

Very sorry to hear this. Chick was the best — a true legend in Section 1 athletics. RIP.
Section 1 Athletics and Rockland County mourns the loss tonight of one of the truly great people: Retired Nanuet athletic director and longtime basketball referee Frank "Chick" Mazzuca has passed away. He was 74. Mazzuca spent 19 years as Nanuet's AD and was an annual fixture at the Westchester County Center as one of the top rated officials. He probably officiated as many championship games as anyone in this generation. It's really impossible to explain how far Mazzuca's career and influence reached; from the @CHSAA_NYC to @SecOneAthletics to the @IAABO to the @NYSPHSAA. A Yonkers native and Cardinal Hayes graduate, Mazzuca attended Manhattan College. He started as a phys ed teacher at Fox Lane, worked at Rockland BOCES as a special education supervisor and worked for 13 years as an assistant principal in the @NUFSD district before taking over as the @NanuetBlackGold AD in 2001. He was a strong supporter throughout his career of the Special Olympics, started a youth basketball tournament at @IonaPrepSports that's grew to 120 teams, created a memorial baseball tournament at @WPCSDAthletics in honor of the late Nick Ciccone. And he was best known for being fixture in the Westchester Basketball Officials board where he mentored so many. Those were his closest friends. More than anything, Chick was just a wonderful guy. Everyone that knew him tonight will be saddened - but will almost certainly be reminded of a funny story with him. If there was a group of people laughing at an AD meeting or at the County Center, odds are Chick was as the center of it. My greatest memory of Mazzuca will forever be how kind he was to students with special needs; more than any coach or administrator I have ever known. I witnessed it firsthand on many occasions. He did everything in his power to make everyone feel a part of his athletic program. His heart and the way he treated people will forever stick with me. I'll also always admire the way Mazzuca publicly owned that his call cost Lakeland boys basketball a win over a famed Peekskill team at the County Center in 2007 (photo below). He spoke to @RickCarpiniello of @lohudsports the day after TV footage revealed he had made a mistake. That almost never happens. Mazzuca spent a handful of years following his retirement in 2020 serving as the scorekeeper for @bcimmino1 and the Mount Vernon basketball team. But was too ill to continue last season. Chick loved being a ref. He loved going out to Lamandas after County Center games. He loved his school and Rockland County. And his focus in life was always doing what was best for kids. Chick was my friend, as he was to so many in our communities. May he rest in peace.

Congrats to Coach O’Donnell on his retirement. He IS Stepinac. 👍🏻 @StepinacSports
BREAKING: An end of era in Stepinac football. Hall of Fame head coach Mike O'Donnell is retiring after 37 seasons. A.J. Magee, a former assistant in the program, will replace O'Donnell as Stepinac head coach. Magee spent the last few seasons coach in college, most recently at Wagner. O'Donnell, who will remain as the school's athletic director and involved in football, was only the sixth head football coach in the program's 75 year history. In his time, he won 238 games, four @NYCHSFL AAA Championships, three state crowns, as well as three AA league titles. He helped so many kids go to college and started many on their paths to the professional level. Personally, Coach O'Donnell is one of my favorite people ever in this business. He was the first person I ever interviewed as a reporter in 1998. His team just lost a heartbreaker in what would be a winless season. He sat and calmly answered questions from an 18 year old kid who didn't know what was doing. I'll never forget his professionalism. That day changed me forever and I owe so much of my own career to him for it. Believe me when I say O'Donnell suffered some of the worst losses imaginable and survived some extremely tumultuous seasons. He also led Stepinac on one of the greatest stretches of football this county has ever seen. Through all the highs and lows, the man never changed. O'Donnell is always classy, always kind. His only focus was on helping his players. He never once exuded any shred of ego for his accomplishments. O'Donnell is loved by everyone in the Stepinac community. And he’s admired and respected throughout the Catholic League and in coaching circles around the Tri-State. One thing I've learned in my time is that a lot of coaches across all sports compile impressive numbers and championships. They deserve the recognition. But the great ones, like O'Donnell, will be far more remembered years from now for how he kindly he treated people, how generous he was and how much he cared about his players and his school. For that, "O'D" is truly a legend.

So glad to see White Plains HS dedicate its court to @CoachSMayfield & Sue Adams last night. Their on-court success warranted the honor, but both set a great example for student-athletes as well. White Plains so fortunate to have them. I’m just sorry Sue wasn’t there to see it.
