Alcohol isn't worth it.
Exercise is therapy.
Nature is medicine.
Peace is priceless.

77% of young athletes say their confidence is directly affected by their coach.
Give them more than instruction.
Make them feel:

Bill Belichick shares the 3 things he saw in Tom Brady that made him great.
"His talent was okay. But he was very smart, he loved football, and he worked extremely hard."
"Day after day after day after day, he just kept improving."
Brady came in as the 4th string quarterback - but talent wasn't what separated him.
It was love for the game. Intelligence. And relentless work ethic.
Talent gets you noticed. But these three things make you great:
1. Love what you do - Make it more than a job. Make it your calling.
2. Be a student of your craft - The smartest players see what others miss.
3. Outwork everyone - Day after day after day. No shortcuts. No days off.
"That's where he was, but he became great."

35 total teams from Iowa, SD, Minnesota and Wisconsin with 20 duals teams (some schools joined to make full line-ups)
100° outside, 90° in the field house, couple black eyes, bloody noses, and some sore shoulders and elbows but our girls went…

You don’t always get the spot because you’re the most talented. You get it because you were the most prepared. Can’t win on skill? Win on effort. Can’t win on talent? Win on preparation. Go find your edge. Then double down on it. You don’t have to be the best, just be different.

Defending National Champion @IndianaFootball head coach Curt Cignetti (@CCignettiIU) explanation for Indiana's rapid transformation is a CLINIC in leadership:
"If what you did yesterday seems important to you, you haven't done much today." 🍫🤯
👥 What changes results? People, Plan, Process. Results begin with people. Recruit high-character individuals (coaches and players), develop them relentlessly, and unite them around a shared vision. Talent may raise your ceiling, but character determines whether your team can consistently reach it!
📈 Culture can drift toward mediocrity by accident, but great cultures NEVER drift upward by accident. They are engineered through high standards, clear expectations, and accountability. As Coach Cignetti says, "How you do something is how you do everything." Every meeting, workout, practice, conversation, and decision is either reinforcing your standard or eroding it.
📚 Elite organizations are consumed with stacking value. They stack productive meetings, intentional practices, disciplined preparation, and consistent execution, they literally stack great days. Championships are simply the delayed byproduct of thousands of ordinary moments handled extraordinarily well.
🧠 The job of a coach leader: "The only limitations are those between your ears, and that's my job, to make sure those don't exist." Leadership is about expanding what people believe is possible and replacing self-imposed ceilings with confidence built through preparation.
Yesterday's success is evidence, not a residence.
The best teams refuse to live off old victories. They celebrate briefly, learn continuously, and return to work immediately. Every new day is another opportunity to earn the standard all over again.
The scoreboard is always a lagging indicator. 🏆
The people who love you most will push you, not just praise you.
Praise feels good but it doesn't always make you better. The people who truly love you will celebrate your wins and still look you in the eye and say you're not done yet.
Find those people and don't let them go.

As an AD, I often hear people say, “Winning is not important.”
I disagree.
Winning is important, but the journey required to become a winner is even more important.
The goal is to maximize an athlete’s talent through adversity while teaching resilience, discipline, and accountability.
Losing should hurt, because standards matter. But every loss should become one step closer to winning.
If we tell athletes winning is not important, we are not preparing them for life.
The pursuit of winning teaches lessons that last far beyond the scoreboard.

Kobe's speech to @AlabamaFTBL in 2016 will always be legendary and packed with timeless wisdom for leaders:
🐍 Edit your life. If your habits, relationships, routines, or distractions don't align with who you say you want to become, ELIMINATE THEM. Simple as that. That clarity will help you create commitment in your life.
🎥 Excellence begins with curiosity. You have passion to learn but you have to stoke it like a fire in order to grow. The separation isn't talent, it's the willingness to OBSESS over details others overlook. Kobe didn’t watch film just to confirm what happened. He watched to uncover what could happen. He was feeding his curiousity. What if the defense adjusts? What if the first option gets taken away? What counter exists after the counter? Anticipate, prepare, and think multiple moves ahead.
⚡ Excellence isn't an event, it's an identity. Kobe believed coasting against weaker competition only creates bad habits because standards don't change based on the opponent. If you want to perform at an elite level when it matters most, you have to practice excellence when nobody's watching.
Everybody wants to be the beast, but not everybody wants to do what the beast does. Fall in love with the process, because the habits you repeat eventually become the person you are. 🐻

Louisiana Tech head football coach Sonny Cumbie has learned firsthand that more hours don't always lead to better leadership.
"At the end of the day, when my brain is done, I'm going home, and the problems that are here will still be here tomorrow. I'll serve our team better with a fresh mind and being well rested."
The longer I've worked with coaches and leaders, the more I've realized that the goal isn't to squeeze every ounce of energy out of yourself in the service of others.
It's to sustainably show up at your best so your people (and you) benefit in the process.
Sometimes the most productive thing a leader can do is go home, recover, and come back tomorrow ready to think clearly and serve others well.

Great teams don’t make excuses.
They make adjustments.
No…
“Yeah, but the refs…”
“Yeah, but they’re more talented…”
“Yeah, but we were tired…”
Accountability starts when the excuses stop.

A lot of times when you feel like God's "breaking" you, He's actually BUILDING you for a specific purpose.

If you’re pulling into a gas station this Memorial Weekend, complaining about the inconvenience of paying more at the pump…consider the sacrifice of the soldier, sailor, or Marine, making their sacrifices for our lives and our freedom. Exchange your complaint for a prayer.
As powerful wind gusts whipped trees on the grounds of the Arlington National Cemetery, a lone soldier continued their watch over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Saturday as rain lashed the area during severe storms. #vawx
