The announcements continue to roll in including from @scotiabank, @BMO, and @RBC! 🏦 Combined, they make up $373.4B in commitments to investing in Canada. 🍁 It's a long way from the $1T target, but a huge and rapid start!
53% of all venture capital invested in Canada comes from the United States. 💸 We've got a long way to go, but this is a nice change of pace. 😉👏

🚨 Waterloo is often described as the MIT of Canada. On CBC, Waterloo math instructor Dan Wolczuk describes first-year students arriving with inflated grades, missing foundational math skills, and unprepared for university math. The problem has worsened over time. He makes several important points: - High school math classes have been weakened so students can get better grades. - Less testing in high school and fewer standardized tests both hurt student learning and lead to grade inflation. - Grade inflation doesn't help students in the long run. It's demoralizing to get 99% in high school and fail your first calculus test b/c prerequisite knowledge isn't secure. - Some memorization is necessary in math. Math builds on itself and students need to be able to easily retrieve foundational knowledge. - The testing effect matters. More testing helps students retain information long term. - More low stakes testing also helps curb test anxiety. Dan thinks we need a national standardized test in Canada. I wholeheardedly agree. Ben is right. This deserves a Heritage Minute. So does a lot of what happened in Canada this year. OPG rebuilt 4 reactors at Darlington 4 months early and $150M under budget, in an industry where fewer than 1 in 10 megaprojects land on time and on budget. Waabi closed the biggest raise in Canadian tech history. Wealthsimple crossed $100B three years ahead of plan. Cohere is past US$200M in revenue. Clio crossed US$500M ARR from Burnaby. All of it during one of the roughest years the Canadian economy has had in a while. None of it broke through as a national story. Canada does not have a building problem. We have a storytelling problem. Under promise, over deliver only works if someone hears about the delivery. Build the thing. Then tell the story. Loudly.
This deserves a Canadian Heritage Minute and nobody's talking about it... 🇨🇦 just rebuilt 4 nuclear reactors at Darlington. 4 months EARLY. C$150M UNDER budget. 3,512 MW locked in for 30+ years. Nuclear megaprojects NEVER come in early. Canada just did. How they pulled it off...

Earth is just one of about 100 billion planets in our galaxy, which is just one of about two trillion galaxies in the universe. And our lifetimes are only about 1/3,000 of humanity's existence, which itself is only 1/20,000 of the Earth's existence. In other words, we are unbelievably tiny and short-lived and no matter what we accomplish, our impact will be insignificant. At the same time, we instinctually want to matter and to evolve, and we can matter a tiny bit--and it's all those tiny bits that add up to drive the evolution of the universe. #principleoftheday

I have been highly critical of federal Liberal—and many provincial—government policies that saw resource extraction as a sin and an embarrassment for the past decade. I understand why some are sceptical that the sector can recover. But the facts on the ground are that policies have improved, public opinion has become more supportive, and prices are higher in the past year and a half. This has led inexorably to more energy and resource projects. Canada will absolutely produce more potash, uranium, copper, gold, natural gas and oil in the coming years. The shovels are already in the ground. For @TheHubCanada I list the biggest projects for those hot commodities. thehub.ca/2026/08/30/trump-h…

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”. The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms. Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.

Chapman's Ice Cream has just done something EVERY Canadian should know. The largest ice cream company in Canada used to source fruit and nuts from American suppliers — for some, for over 30 years. Then, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on Canadian products. So, what did Chapman's do? 📷 They called Italy. 📷 They called Spain. 📷 They signed multi-year contracts with European suppliers. And the vice president said it perfectly: "Even if Trump wakes up smarter than yesterday, we're about to sign long-term deals with other countries — and the American companies that supply them will have nothing but their eyes to cry for." Oh, and on top of ALL that? They're COLDing their prices so that the average Canadian doesn't have to spend a single cent more. It's a family business. No shareholders. Just the Chapman family saying: "The least we can do is make sure Canadians still have the means to buy ice cream." That's what Canadian pride looks like. Next time you're at the grocery store — grab some Chapman's. Every scoop of ice cream is a vote for Canada.

Søren Kierkegaard on the Importance of Walking “Above all, do not lose your desire to walk. Everyday, I walk myself into a state of well-being & walk away from every illness. I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it. But by sitting still, & the more one sits still, the closer one comes to feeling ill. Thus if one just keeps on walking, everything will be all right.”
