Historically, Muslim polities tended to treat their Christian subjects much, much, much better than Christian polities treated their Muslim subjects
I know it may be difficult to digest. But the fact still stands
Replying to @bordyev @kamilkazani
You think Christianity turned Tatars into serfs? Do Christian teachings somehow promote this? You know that the large majority of serfs in Russia were Christians, right?
"Turning Muslims into second-class subjects..":
Care to provide any evidence? What I know is that in 1773 Caterine II had an edict proclaiming religious tolerance and officially acknowledged the existence of the Muslim community and allowed free practice of their religious rites.
Now compare this to the plight of non-Mulims in any Muslim empire at the time.

Cell phone addiction is an absolute thermonuke to the brain and nobody 'takes it seriously' because it is not clear that there is any solution in a world where the revealed preference of everyone across the globe, regardless of income, race, age, any factor whatsoever, would rather be on their phone than do *anything* else. Deciding "I use this too much" and meaningfully altering one's behaviour doesn't seem to have much success for any of the very small minority of people with the sentience or self-reflection to realize how bad it is. Most people seem to think of it as an unproductive habit at most, rather than an addiction. Any attempt to speak seriously about this is met with derision, accusations of pretentiousness. There is no real solution to it. The future of human cognition fifty years down the line is horrifying if you stop and think about it for even a moment.

Napoleon's work ethic was insane. As a young boy he entered an essay contest. He locked himself in his room for days. He read everyday for hours. He even kept the window closed so he could concentrate. He said "I lived like a bear". This is the insane level of intensity every Great Man needs.

Delighted to announce that my new article on Christian monasticism in western Arabia during the 5th-8th centuries is now published in Arabian Archaeology and Epigraphy: doi.org/10.1111/aae.70035.
I will be uploading the accepted version online once the embargo period ends.
Pretty sad you’re using a medieval forgery as evidence. xitter.cf/jordanacademia0/status…

Hashmi argues that in this context, fitnah refers to religious persecution and is functionally equivalent to ikrāh (religious compulsion) "and the dīn is for God" should be understood as "your worship (dīnukum) may be directed exclusively (khāliṣan) to God" (Sinai, Key Terms, 299).
In other words, al-dīnu kulluhu li-llāhi is equivalent to ikhlāṣ al-dīn (purity of worship), which, according to Goudarzi, “signifies monotheistic worship" (Goudarzi, “Worship,” 10).
When are believers justified in waging war? And when should they cease doing so? In this JIQSA article, I argue for a defensive reading of the "fitnah-fighting verses": "Fight them until there is no fitnah and al-dīn is wholly for God" (Q 2:193; 8:39) 1/

Even failure to render jizyah was not met with forced conversion or death but rather with the application of more force until payment was made. Taxation, not compulsion, was the operative concern. Abū Yūsuf (d. 182/798) writes of dhimmīs who default on the jizyah: “They are to be imprisoned until they pay what is due from them, and they are not to be released from imprisonment until the jizyah has been full collected from them” (wa-yuḥbasūna ḥattā yuʾaddū mā ʿalayhim wa-lā yukhra jūna mina l-ḥabsi ḥattā yustawfīya minhumu l-jizyata) (Kitāb al-Kharāj, § 268, 209).
This defensive reading finds support in reports consistently attributed to Ibn Isḥāq (d. ca. 150/767), Muḥammad’s well-known biographer, and can, in turn, be traced back to ʿUrwah b. al-Zubayr (d. ca. 94/712–13), an early scholar of Medina and nephew of the Prophet’s wife, ʿĀʾishah bt. Abī Bakr (d. ca. 58/678). In these early reports, fitnah is identified with a believer being “persecuted/coerced away from his religion” (yuftana muʾminun ʿan dīnihi) (Ibn Hishām, al-Sīrah al-nabawiyyah, 2:67; Guillaume, Life of Muhammad, 213).

Why the Qur'an does not believe in an imminent eschatology or why Muhammad was not a failed apocalyptic prophet: A Thread 🧵

Nicolai Sinai On The Eschatology Of The Qur'an (2/2)📚
According to Q 79:46, it will appear to the resurrected as if they had spent only a single night in their graves. Later passages speak of a period of ten days (Q 20:103), ‘only an hour’ (Q 10:45, 30:55), and ‘a short while’ (Q 17:52, 23:114). This is NOT the same as an imminent apocalypse. The Qur’an exhibits almost no concern with predicting the final chapters of history that would usher in the end of the world.
