Like the defense, what the offense lacks in exoticism, it makes up for with excellent play along the offensive line.
They get chunks in the run game, protect the QB, and take care of the football.
Add that to a defense that quickly gets the ball back and good special teams, you get a team that can dictate games without being sexy.
Offensively, it's another vintage Ferentz outfit, lining up in 12 personnel 57% of the time.
However, the play-calling is rather predictable, running predominantly from those 2-TE sets 61% of the time while only running from 11P 32% of the time.
Seemingly, the home base is Trey (3x1 with TE to 3-man side) which has been the go-to look in passing situations.
While some may think such a static, predictable scheme won't work in today's game, it's one of the most effective defenses in the country.
The Hawkeyes might create relatively few turnovers and negative plays, but they get off the field as well as anyone.
