It’s been a journey of discovery for me going through family photos and papers this year with mum.
One of rediscovery and reflection for mum.
Chuffed that I had the time to chat, unlike with dad.
RIP — I bloody miss you both.

Every time it pops up in my ‘memories’ I can’t resist posting it.
It never gets old

🏴💔 Everton supporter Steve Kelly tragically lost his brother Michael in the Hillsborough disaster.
At every Merseyside derby at Anfield, Steve sits in Michael old seat in the Kop, wearing his Everton colors proudly in honor of his brother.
Liverpool fans have never given him any abuse—only total respect. 🙌
Football rivalry means nothing compared to respect and humanity. ❤️
Did you know in 2014, Ukraine needed a loan?
There were two offers on the table:
🔴 The IMF dangled $15 billion, but with strings attached:
-Scrap the ban on private land ownership.
-Slash pensions and fuel subsidies, classic austerity.
🔴 Russia also offered $15 billion.
No strings, no neoliberal gutting of the economy.
President Yanukovych picked the Russian deal.
So what happened?
Washington backed a coup, ousted him, and installed a new puppet regime.
Then the new government bent the knee to the IMF.
Signed off on austerity program and opened the door to privatization.
Now, massive chunks of Ukrainian land, about a third, are in the hands of foreign giants like BlackRock.

If you support the Ukraine war with Russia then you’re a dupe for the War Machine.
Pat Buchanan, 1999:
“By moving NATO onto Russia’s front porch, we have scheduled a twenty-first century confrontation. … America will face a hellish dilemma: risk confrontation with a nuclear-armed Russia determined to recreate its old sphere of influence, or renege on solemn commitments and see NATO collapse.”
Therefore, he said, “Offering NATO memberships to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and, as some urge, Ukraine is rashness bordering on madness.” Referring to maps the Clinton team must have ignored, Buchanan warned, “This would put the Russian base at Kaliningrad behind NATO lines and bring into a U.S.-led alliance three nations with huge Russian minorities.” Foreseeing future conflict, he observed that “Latvia is almost half Russian; eastern Ukraine, almost entirely Russian. America could neither defend nor liberate these nations without the risk of nuclear war.”

Ah yes, Finland, the "neutral bystander" of WWII. Just standing there, totally uninvolved, while Leningrad starved. Cute story. Too bad it's pure fiction.
Finnish troops sat on Leningrad's doorstep for three years, and they weren't sipping coffee. They held one-third of the blockade line. Without Finland, the Germans couldn't have fully closed the ring that starved 1.5 million people to death, including 400,000 children.
On June 25, 1941, Mannerheim ordered the Finnish Army into the war against the USSR:
"I call you to a holy war against the enemy of our nation. Together with the mighty armed forces of Germany, as brothers-in-arms, we resolutely set out on a crusade against the enemy to secure a reliable future for Finland."
And the crusade came with a map. On the "Greater Finland" plan you'll find Murmansk, Leningrad and Kandalaksha marked as Finnish 👇

The media will never show you that.

🇦🇷🪄 The way Santiago Castro manages to pull off this finish with so many players around him is incredible. 👏😳

A striking snapshot of Washington’s direct involvement in Ukraine’s political upheaval.
The same officials who spoke so confidently about democracy were right there amid the turmoil surrounding the removal of a democratically elected president.
This raises an uncomfortable question: was this truly about defending Ukrainian democracy, or about Washington advancing its own geopolitical agenda at Ukraine’s expense?
What most people already understand, even without the economic terminology, is that firms like BlackRock operate less like investors and more like modern feudal landlords.
They buy essential infrastructure, water networks, ports, energy grids, data centres, and other public necessities, often using vast amounts of borrowed money and paying prices that ordinary market participants cannot match.
Once the acquisition is complete, the debt is pushed onto the acquired company itself.
The result is simple: the public pays.
Consumers repay that debt through higher water bills, rising energy prices, increased fees, and declining service quality.
The infrastructure becomes a cash-extraction machine.
Profits flow upward to shareholders and executives, while the financial burden flows downward to ordinary households.
When the model inevitably breaks down, the consequences are socialised. Communities are left with crumbling infrastructure, polluted rivers and failing services.
Thames Water's £14 billion debt mountain and repeated sewage scandals are a stark example of what happens when financial engineering takes precedence over public stewardship.
The executives who loaded the company with debt have already collected their bonuses.
The investors have already taken their returns.
And when the system finally reaches its breaking point, taxpayers are expected to pick up the bill.
Privatise the gains.
Socialise the losses.
That is the business model......
