A pleasure to sit down with Jonathan Silver on the Tikvah Podcast to try to make sense of the protests across France- and what lies behind them. We also discussed antisemitism, the polarization of French society, and a generation coming of age in a country increasingly at odds with itself. Listen here. podcasts.apple.com/fr/podcas…

Reminder: “…the first task in war is to understand the kind of war one is in. Israel’s experience shows us the war we are already fighting. Any Western democracy that fails to recognize this reality risks defeat in the next war, possibly before the first rounds are fired. The battle for will, legitimacy, and truth is well underway.” More in my @mosaicmag article with @SpencerGuard as the war of barbarism on civilization rages without ceasefires.
“While the IDF was fighting enemies in Gaza, the West Bank, Syria, and Lebanon, and responding to missile and drone attacks from Yemen, Iraq, and Iran, this eighth front was located in the realm of international opinion and public perception. The weapons used weren’t rifles and rockets…This unconventional war for hearts and minds directly shaped Israel’s ability to fight on all other fronts and proved itself just as lethal.” My latest with @SpencerGuard in @mosaicmag on the unconventional war that Israel is on the frontlines of, and that the west should be preparing for. ideas.tikvah.org/mosaic/obse…

On of the best pieces written right after October 7.
Today the paywall was lifted (temporarily?) on my article from three years ago “Ecstasy and Amnesia in the Gaza Strip.” It was my attempt in the first weeks after October 7 to understand a current event as a historical one. ideas.tikvah.org/mosaic/essa…

Ayaan Hirsi Ali was once inside the Islamist movement. She knows firsthand what they pray for. "We never differentiated between liberal Jews, secular Jews, religious Jews... It was just all Jews." This is not hyperbole. This is a warning. Watch the full interview with The Tikvah Fund on the Tikvah Podcast here: youtube.com/watch?v=X11Gyupt…

Mosaic has an interesting piece on the passage from the Talmud that he quotes and the parallel Quranic passage archive.ph/VJTzQ
The Talmud teaches that anyone who sustains one soul, has sustained an entire world. For generations, Jewish New Yorkers have sustained our city. Today, we are launching the first-ever municipal Strategy to Combat Antisemitism. Together, we will ensure Jewish New Yorkers are safe and celebrated. We will invest in their protection, their history, and their future. Our safety and our thriving are tied together.

I'm reminded today of the parallels bet 9/11 and 10/7, incl how the left has evoked "blame the victims" for both. "Never forget" has to include never forgetting who seeks to excuse evil. My @mosaicmag essay: ideas.tikvah.org/mosaic/colu…

There’s a video I’ve seen around of Bishop Fulton Sheen on the inversion of sympathies, I think it’s labelled Fulton Sheen on false compassion. There’s a great discussion of a fundamental inversion from which these things spring, the inversion of the Hebraic inheritance in Cohen & Silver’s exceptional essay, America’s Hebraic Awakening Link in reply

"Several social-media platforms dedicated to targeting Israeli-Turkish dual citizens began identifying and publicly exposing those who had served in the IDF and threatening them with legal action in Turkey. In February 2026, an Israeli-Turkish dual citizen visiting Istanbul was detained by Turkish security forces after her name and pictures of her in her IDF uniform had been circulated by one such social-media campaign. The detention was particularly striking given that she had completed her military service before October 7, 2023 and had no involvement in the war in Gaza. She was subsequently released following diplomatic intervention."

Today, one can no longer really be a Nazi, a communist, or an Islamist in anything like the twentieth-century sense of those words. One can hardly even be a liberal. We are too postmodern to believe so completely, too fragmented to inhabit a system, too suspicious of grand explanations to surrender ourselves to an ideology. And yet one can still be an antisemite. Why should antisemitism survive the death of the ideological worlds that once gave it structure, explanation, and purpose? I try to explore that question below.
Today, @HusseinAboubak responds to Eliana Aiken's essay on information warfare, asking what makes anti-Semitism so perfectly adapted to a postmodern, globalized environment that has been so destructive of so many other ideologies and traditions. ideas.tikvah.org/mosaic/essa…

I'm in the middle of this and I see a parallel within the Christian community—uncomfortable with power and "a seduction of powerlessness." I usually frame it as romanticizing persecution. Well done @tikvahfund @JonathanLSilver Dr. Fish is perceptive; a fantastic conversation thus far.
