Nelson Goerner brings his special magic to Bach (crisp), Schumann (wonderful), Schubert and Chopin in his recital @wigmore_hall while @RiversideLondon Measure for Measure in much-abridged version contains much to admire as the Duke loses his mind in the final scenes - brilliant.

Heroic work from the cast not enough to enliven Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky but beautifully designed, played with commitment @swkplay @stratfordeast the superb Bloodsport reaches the end of its superb run, a West End transfer must follow, writing of the highest order.

Extraordinary day @wigmore_hall Tamara Stefanovich brightens our day with her scintillating sounds in Bach, Rameau, Messiaen then Elisabeth Leonskaja, indefatigable, eternally wonderful in an all-Schubert programme. Like Bruce Springsteen we wondered if she would play all night.

Five star presentation of a vaguely incredible play as @AlmeidaTheatre showcase Golden Boy, a piece by Clifford Odets very much of its time. A fine cast and impeccable design bring it to life and the reception is as enthusiastic as one might expect. A transfer surely looms.

Three cheers for pianist Mishka Rushdie Momen for bringing a fascinating programme @wigmore_hall today with Rameau, Ravel, the wonderfully-named Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, the Englishman John Bull and Couperin. Bull's music (Walsingham) was extraordinary and a rare treat.

A faintly embarrassing evening @MaryleboneTHLDN as Rylance dons the dog collar and set of false teeth in a hammed-up presentation of Tartuffe. The play felt like a village pantomime and was well received but we had our doubts, winks to the audience and other asides seem popular.
55
Amazed there are still tickets avaialble @JSTheatre for their presentation of A Slow Fire, a brilliant piece of theatre, finely written and superbly well acted by the four protagonists. The piece is a little shrill at the outset finds its way soon after and deserves recognition.

A Month in the Country @DonmarWarehouse a hugely engaging evening with characteristically mesmerising performance from Sophie Okonedo among others. Meanwhile @NationalTheatre Cate Blanchett shines in an overlong and not wholly convincing Electra/Persona.

Angels in America in Ivo van Hove's production @edfests slightly outstays its welcome and is uncharacteristically lacking in his signature brilliance while Cyrano de Bergerac @DMTWestEnd ticks most all the boxes while perhaps not fully milking the final scene for all it's worth.
81
Alan Ayckbourn's diverting How the Other Half Loves finds its way to @oldvictheatre for a long-ish run presenting to the very audiences the play attempts to pillory. Thank heavens for the two main protagonists otherwise all would be lost as the peripheral characters limped.

Good things @glyndebourne as Billy Budd makes its reappearance in a superb presentation directed by Michael Grandage while @wigmore_hall popular pianist presents Bach/Busoni, Liszt and Ravel on a Fazioli piano on which instrument the jury is out, something wooden in the tone.

Much to admire @_bridgetheatre in their new presentation of The Oresteia but as it progresses, standards slip, technology malfunctions and the wheels come off the narrative bus. It all takes far too long - four and a half hours, you've got to be joking no one has the time sadly.

Another triumph @arcolatheatre where Quartet in Autumn is adapted for the stage in a brilliant sensitive production and superbly realised by the four participants; hard to single out the best performance among such a cast but Kate Duchêne always a favourite and wholly believable.

Again @wigmore_hall the Quatuor Ébène showcase their astonishing skills in one of Beethoven's Op. 18 quartets and then most dramatically in his Op. 135 & 131. The quartets still sound so modern; one can only wonder how this music sounded to his contemporaries, so raw, so brash.
107
Wonder if we will ever hear a finer performance of Beethoven's Op. 127 string quartet than we heard @wigmore_hall last evening as the Ébène Quartet presented three, two from Op. 18. The slow movement the highlight of the concert, sustained, intense, ethereal. More on Saturday.

Don't miss Heart Wall @bushtheatre a fine piece of theatre superbly well crafted, acted and presented, it may indeed be the play of the year as suggested by The Times. Fringe theatres like the Bush deserve all our support otherwise as Churchill said, What are we fighting for?

Courageous look at the Iphigenia story @arcolatheatre although the writing not always up to the mark while @MaryleboneTHLDN Miller's The Price gets its second airing in recent times, after a sluggish first half becomes utterly compelling in the second with fine key performances.
56
A fresh look at The Crucible as John Procter is the Villain excites audiences @royalcourt while The Doll's House is credibly updated @AlmeidaTheatre and Liaisons Dangereuses @NationalTheatre slightly de-fanged, our hero as endearing as an Irish cabbie lacking necessary gravitas.
116
Two superb central performances from Pearl Chanda & Eli Gelb enliven a new presentation of Arthur Miller's uneven Broken Glass @youngvictheatre last evening. The piece flags a little in the final furlongs - coming in over two hours - but is a timely reminder of Nazi atrocities.
89
Beethoven in his full derangement on display last evening @BarbicanCentre as leading UK pianist Steve Osborne directs his extraordinary talent on the Diabelli Variations, before the interval in Schubert's psalmic B Flat sonata which was intense & sublime, Beethoven electrifying.
