Elon Musk: "My mind often feels like a very wild storm."
"I have a fountain of ideas, more ideas than I can possibly execute. So I have no shortage of ideas. Innovation is not the problem. Execution is the problem."

Flight 8 definitely had the scariest catch, for a moment I honestly thought it was about to crash into the tower.

In the video, the device demonstrates passive electrodynamic stabilization of an independent central aluminum conductor disc within a coaxial assembly of magnetized end caps driven by brushless motors.
At rest, gravity causes the central disc to sag downward, creating an asymmetric gap (narrower below, wider above). Upon powering the motors, the rotating end caps generate time-varying magnetic fields that induce eddy currents in the non-driven central disc. These currents produce opposing magnetic fields, resulting in repulsive forces that are strongly nonlinear with gap distance—significantly stronger in narrower gaps.
This asymmetry generates a net upward electromagnetic force on the central disc, exceeding its gravitational weight and lifting it toward the midpoint. As the gaps equalize, the forces balance, achieving stable, contactless centering visible around the 3:15 mark, with all components rotating synchronously.
This internal net lift on the disc—enabled by the device’s deliberate rotational and axial independence—counteracts gravity passively, creating the observed “floating” equilibrium without mechanical contact or external control. The effect relies on classical electromagnetic principles (Faraday’s and Lenz’s laws) and highlights efficient non-contact torque coupling and stabilization.

Instead of scrolling through 5 second videos on this first day of the new year, enjoy one of my favourite clips from the Earth to the Moon. This is from Episode 5 about the LM. Challenge every requirement, simplify and delete until it hurts, rapid prototype and test, iterate.
