We wake up to screens.
We work on screens.
We wind down with screens.
Last week, someone reminded me how to interrupt the loop.
I wrote about what that moment feels like, and why it matters: jonhmchan.substack.com/p/con…
I've started writing again, and there's one big question that's been on my mind for a long time: when intelligence is no longer what defines our humanity, what will replace it?

Learning about @fortelabs's Second Brain and CODE has been a huge lightbulb moment for me. Pair that with @obsdmd and I'm deep, deep down the rabbit hole.
Been taking a break from here for some months with everything unfolding at Twitter, and it's come to a head with today's news about the layoffs. Tweeps, thank you for everything you've done for this platform #OneTeam

Internships have long served as pathways into tech careers. It's time we reimagine them to ensure they're truly accessible to all New Yorkers.

I just binged ALL of @cleoabram’s new project and I couldn’t be more excited! It’s tempting to fall into despair about tech these days, but there’s still reason for hope - can’t wait to see more

Really excited to see this happening especially with @bethanymarz involved. It's incredible how the NYC tech community has come together to provide under-represented students with paid opportunities to explore tech careers - and now they're expanding!
NYC's Summer Youth Employment Program has been a critical lifeline for youth to get paid work experience during the pandemic.
Today, we're announcing a pilot to scale and extend SYEP year-round — and we're recruiting tech companies to join us! Learn more: bit.ly/3scFosk

Happy start of Asian Heritage Month everyone! Join me in celebrating by supporting Asian-owned businesses and ordering boba and soup dumplings for dinner tonight! This is totally not something I do personally two to three times a week... yeah...
I've been reading this report by @HiddenTribesUS on polarization and I can't put it down. If you think about social technology and its impact on politics like I do, give it a read: hiddentribes.us/media/qfpekz…
I was at a show opening in memory of Christina Yuna Lee at @EliKleinGallery tonight
I didn’t realize she worked there and that I’m just two degrees of separation from her. With the attacks targeting Asian communities lately, it was both a beautiful and haunting experience.
For most of my life in NYC, it always seemed like a relatively safe place, even for someone who’s both openly queer and Asian. That’s changed rapidly the last few years.
