I run my own local AI server. It sucks and will always suck, forever. Why? Because by batching a bunch of other people's requests together, any AI system outputs 5x to 10x more tokens per second. The state of the art new model that just released public weights yesterday requires about 1/2 a million dollars of hardware to run it. You will never ever break even on that, ever, compared to just spending on other, smarter, frontier models (currently chatgpt > claude > Kimi > GLM.) Your particular usecase will move those around.
As you try and shove larger models into the pitiful amount of memory you have locally, they get dumber and dumber, and man, I mean real dumb. I'll post the lesson from all this in it's own post, for TLDR sake.
