The product doesn’t find the market. The company shuts down. Or the outcome simply isn’t what you expected. And suddenly, someone who spent years building, leading, and taking risks is viewed differently because of one chapter in their career. I think we need to be more gentle with people who took a real risk. A failed startup doesn’t erase what someone learned or what they’re capable of building. A career gap doesn’t erase their talent. Sometimes people just need someone to look beyond the outcome and say: “I see what you built. I see what you’re capable of. Let’s figure out what’s next.” One person taking a chance can lead to a new job, a new team, a new opportunity, and sometimes a completely different trajectory.
