The poverty gap between children of married and unmarried mothers has narrowed from 20 points among those born in the 70s to 10 points among those born in the 90s.
For kids of college-educated moms, the poverty gap between those with married and unmarried moms nearly disappeared (94% vs. 96% not poor). nber.org/papers/w35765?utm_s…

Suicide attempts among married Americans held steady from 2008 to 2019.
Among the unmarried, they rose 50%.
In an increasingly isolated age, marriage looks like one of the last reliable social anchors. Yet fewer Americans have one.

I guess I'm just an old fashioned feminist who has had regrettable consensual sex after a few beers and tried to do better next time.

This is an example of the truly lame effort by many women to find meaning for their lives.
1. You decide you are going to “fight sexism and patriarchy.”
2. You look around and realize that before you were born other women (and men) pretty much solved that. You have more rights now than any other women before you in history.
3. Nonetheless, you refuse to let go of your goal of being a “champion for women.”
4. Knowing there is nothing for you to “fight against,” you manufacture a problem, so you can then become the hero and still accomplish this goal of yours.
5. You manage to publish a book, as millions of women have done in the past. You then present some “problem,” which doesn’t actually exist— that people in 2026 assume all books are written by “the patriarchy.”
6. You make and internationally distribute a video showing yourself as the “hero,” rescuing women from oppressive conditions.
All you’ve done is embarrass yourself by revealing your complete ignorance of history’s female authors, dishonored the men and women who gained the freedoms and rights that women have enjoyed for decades, and shown how blind you are to how anyone around you actually functions in society.
Fail.
(And we all know your next move: The first bad review you get for your book will have you running to TikTok to tell everyone how the critics are “sexist.” No, it will be a critique of you and your writing. Own it. Don’t try to pull “all women” into your own personal issue.)

Perhaps teens need fewer things to “identify as” and more actual real life things to go out and just do.

A year ago, California set a goal of getting 10,000 men into service through the California Men's Service Challenge. Today, they have surpassed that goal.
Volunteering and service are pathways into careers, and men remain underrepresented in the fastest-growing fields, like health, education and care work. Congrats to @CalVolunteers on this achievement!

How can you NOT believe in God when octopuses dream and otters have a favorite rock they carry around in a little skin pocket and cows have best friends and bees are out there communicating the coordinates of flowers through dancing and they have regional dialects?
Cats are purring at frequencies associated with bone healing? Forests get absolutely incinerated and respond by growing flowers? Dolphins literally invent names for themselves and yell them across the ocean? Penguins are waddling around Antarctica looking for the perfect rock to give their partner?
CROWS REMEMBER YOUR FACE. THEY TELL OTHER CROWS ABOUT YOU. THEY TELL THEIR CHILDREN ABOUT YOU. YOU CAN HAVE GENERATIONAL BEEF WITH A BIRD. I NEED YOU TO UNDERSTAND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS.
Goats have accents. Rats laugh when you tickle them. Elephants mourn their dead. Whales make songs and then OTHER WHALES LEARN THE SONG and suddenly everybody across the ocean is singing the new song.
Monarch butterflies are born knowing how to fly thousands of miles to a place they have never been.
Sea turtles hatch out of an egg, immediately sprint toward an ocean that they have never seen, disappear into it for like 3 decades and then somehow come back to the same beach they hatched on.
Birds can see colors that we humans can’t see. There are colors out there right now that we don’t even get to know about.
There are sea slugs that eat algae and use the chloroplast/chlorophyll and then are just like…photosynthesizing. And they’re super adorable.
There are mushrooms communicating underground. There are seeds sitting in the dirt for decades like “no actually I will wait. It’s fine.”
Squirrels plant trees because they forget where they put their snacks. Relatable.
A CATERPILLAR GOES INTO A LITTLE BAG THAT IT CREATES ITSELF AND DISSOLVES MOST OF ITS BODY INTO ORGANIC GOO AND REARRANGES ITSELF, GROWS WINGS AND THEN LEAVES. WHY IS THIS NOT MORE BEAUTIFULLY TERRIFYING TO PEOPLE??
And you’re telling me a tiny acorn knows how to become a huge tree? It just has a blueprint inside itself?
Your body started as ONE CELL.
ONE.
And that cell divided itself into a brain that can think about its own existence and eyes that can look at stars and hands that can hold somebody else’s hands and a heart that runs on electricity without you even asking it to?
The iron in our blood was made inside a star??
We are walking around on a wet rock covered in bioluminescent oceans and singing whales and laughing rats and birds holding lifelong grudges and flowers exploding out of fire and somehow we’re supposed to act like this is a normal place to live?
We’re supposed to act like this is all just a random, accidental sequence of events?
“Prison admission rates for people aged 18 to 30 have already fallen 53% since 2000.”
The prison population shrank over the past 15 years. Over the next 15 years, it's going to shrink a lot more. Shawn Bushway, Jason Robey, and I explain why in our new paper in Annual Review of Criminology.

Narrow definitions of housework and childcare often miss other work typically done by fathers, such as home and vehicle maintenance. Including these and paid hours, the mother-to-father work ratio falls from 1.5 to 1.08 among dual full-time couples. aibm.org/research/data-spotl…

The homicide rate today is lower than when you were a kid, playing outside. (Unless you were born in the Grover Cleveland administration.)

WINS AND ACHIEVEMENTS FOR MEN AND BOYS DURING THE THIRD QUARTER OF 2026
The global men’s movement is gathering a lot of momentum…
This quarterly update celebrates the remarkable progress achieved between July and September 2026. What was once a fragmented collection of advocates and organisations is becoming a more coordinated international movement, with growing support from governments, researchers, educators, philanthropists and community leaders.
Read it here: celebratingmasculinity.subst…
Here are some highlights:
United States: Bipartisan cooperation continues to grow, with Democrats and Republicans advancing legislation on men’s health, education and community participation. Virginia has been a standout, thanks to the leadership of Emma Johnson and Delegate Josh Thomas, its new Boys and Men Advisory Commission, and the landmark Virginia Blueprint Summit.
UK: The Boys’ Education Commission, new research from the Centre for Policy Research on Men and Boys, and initiatives supporting male survivors are strengthening the evidence base for practical change.
Europe: A new Nordic research network, Germany’s Men’s Council and the Platform for European Fathers’ updated declaration are helping build stronger institutions and international cooperation.
Global Progress: Men Atlas launched with 503 organisations worldwide, making it easier for advocates to connect. The International Council for Men and Boys continued its advocacy for fathers, shared parenting and recognition of male disadvantage.
The most encouraging development is the growing breadth of support. People from different political, professional and cultural backgrounds are finding common ground…
But progress must ultimately be measured by outcomes, not announcements. We need better educational outcomes, fewer male suicides, improved health, stronger families and greater recognition of male victims.
The foundations for lasting change are being established. Now we must translate this momentum into meaningful improvements…
A better future for men and boys is a better future for everyone.
