I hope church leaders are ready for the requsts for restorative practice that will come to the Redress Scheme when it opens. Genuine redress & apology will include taking responsibility for past failures. I'd like the bishops who ignored my rape reports to face me & explain why.

It's hard to understand the rationale behind which church leaders are referred for disciplinary action, & which are not.
Great read! I was recognised as a whistleblower in my parish & was ignored. How can people believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ if the church hides the truth about a served DSAR or subsequent ICO review? Faith built on truth can't survive a culture of silence #Safeguarding
A safe Church cannot be built on silence, secrecy and institutional self-protection.
This is a challenging but important piece on sex, truth, power and safeguarding in the Church of England.
Well worth reading. 👇

We’re very excited to be back singing this coming Tuesday (8th September) after the summer holiday. Meeting friends & hearing how everyone’s break has been - & maybe meeting new members too. If you’d like to join us, it’s 7pm at Bletchingley Village Primary School. Come along 💜 – at Bletchingley, South East
Whatever your opinion, I know my experience of Carnival was one of joy, excitement, inclusion, & safety. The music was varied as were the sights, sounds, flavours & vibes. A truly great day out filled with smiles & laughter. Thank you London, til next time. #nottinghillcarnival
Any kind of abuse is wrong. Acknowledging the harm done & apologising for it goes a long way to rebuilding trust. Despite much work producing ‘proof’ & ‘evidence’ as requested by our church, they still refuse to recognise the Emotional/Psychological abuse caused to my family.
Proud to be part of the working group that produced this statement. The apology & acknowledgement of harm done are huge! Now we need to see the recommendations implemented.

Footage on the internet is insane showing the total destruction of communities across the entire region following the glacial collapse / landslide in Nepal. If like me your geography of the area is poor, this map gives detail. My heart goes out to all affected. #nepal
6 years ago today, we submitted a DSAR to our Parish Church & Diocese. Why? Because between Dec 2019 & June 2020 we asked 4 people 8 separate times for a safeguarding report & details of an allegation we were supposed to have made. We were stonewalled every time. 🧵🪡
The Diocese complied fully with the DSAR. The Parish did not. Earlier this year, the Interim Priest-in-charge & churchwardens asked us to produce evidence packs detailing the abuse of power/trust & spiritual/emotional harm we suffered. We did. This one chapter - a full 22 pages!
This evidence pack & a number of others, was met with silence. Shelved & never acted upon.
Many people still assume we were being malicious - acting in bad faith. This was an opportunity to set the record straight (on this & other matters) - it went unused. #dsar #churchofengland
This review exposes a culture where institutional reputation, process & clergy protection can outweigh listening, accountability & compassion. Different facts as our own, same pattern. Until the Church puts truth & accountability before self-protection, trust will remain broken!
The “inability” of the National Safeguarding Team’s (NST) staff to say that they believed a survivor’s account of rapes was “one of the most damaging” aspects of its handling of her case, an independent review said

Such a great night. Takes me back to when it all started 15 years ago. #cantbelieveitsthatlong #15years
9 years ago today. A new rector at St Mary’s - although the briefest of incumbencies, the fallout for so many has lasted years. Trust lost. Relationships damaged. Faith shaken. Leadership isn’t measured by the position you hold - it’s measured by what you leave behind. Chaos.
Trust in the church! Who can be trusted? A report examining the trustworthiness of clergy and those holding ‘positions of power’ in the church. Who can you trust in yours. Not many in mine!! More to follow! #notsuprisednumbersaredown
NEW: Clerical accountability must be "vigorously tackled”, a report on trust in the Church of England has concluded. An accompanying theological reflection recommends that mandatory reflective pastoral supervision be introduced

As part of continued celebrations, we’re very excited to be welcoming back Anna Tabbush on 14th July. Anna led us at the start of the choir & still provides music & arrangements for us. She’ll be running a special singing workshop - do get in touch if you’d like a place. #harmony
