Skeptics: “The gospels were written after Jesus existed” That’s a fact about every ancient figure. Special pleading fallacy

If you feel unprepared to defend Jesus or Christianity when challenged, you don't need any clever arguments or advanced training. There are simple, clear and biblically grounded ways to answer a few of the most common objections... • If they say: "Jesus never existed." You say: Even non-Christian historians like Tacitus, Josephus and Pliny the Younger mention Him. No serious historian doubts that a man named Jesus of Nazareth existed and was crucified under Pontius Pilate. • If they say: "The Bible has been manipulated and changed too many times, it can't be trusted." You say: Ask them, How precisely do you know what the Bible originally said in order to make such a claim? We have over 5,800 Greek manuscripts of the New Testament. Scholars compare them carefully, and the core text remains about 99.5% consistent. No other ancient document comes close to that level of preservation. The message is cohesive throughout, there is a unity of thought and none of the real variations change any core teaching or big idea within it. • If they say: "The disciples just stole the body of Christ." You say: People will die for what they sincerely believe is true. They do not willingly get tortured and executed for something they know is a lie. Most of the disciples, except John who died of old age, were persecuted and martyred for claiming they had seen the risen Jesus and none of them recanted to save themselves. • If they say: "Jesus was just a good moral teacher." You say: A good moral teacher does not claim to forgive sins, accept worship, or call Himself equal with God. Those claims force a choice: He was either lying, insane, or telling The Truth. The Gospels present Him as the last of these. [see John 10:30, Mark 2:5–12 & John 20:28] • If they say: "A good God wouldn't allow suffering." You say: Christianity is the only worldview in which even God Himself entered human suffering. He did not merely watch from a distance, He was tortured and killed on a cross for sinners and the only one to defeat death. No other religion has a God with physical scars. [Isaiah 53; Philippians 2:5–8; Revelation 5:6] These short replies are easy to understand, historically grounded and rooted in the biblical picture of who Jesus is and what He did. I hope they can help you to earnestly contend for the faith. :)

Me: “I’m not good enough.” Jesus: “I know.” Me: “I can’t stop sinning sometimes.” Jesus: “I know.” Me: “I’ve failed You more times than I can count.” Jesus: “I know.” Me: “I don’t deserve Your love.” Jesus: “You’re right.” Me: “Then why would You save me?” Jesus: “Because I came to save sinners.” THAT is the good news of the gospel. Jesus didn’t come for people who had their lives together. He came to save sinners who could never save themselves. You don’t earn His love by becoming good enough. You don’t pay Him back by becoming perfect. You don’t make yourself righteous through your own efforts. Christ lived the perfect life you could never live. He died the death your sins deserved. He paid the debt you could never repay. And He rose again, conquering sin and death. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). We were guilty. He was innocent. We were unrighteous. He was perfectly righteous. We owed the debt. He paid it. And through faith in Him, we are justified—not because of our righteousness, but because of His. This doesn’t mean sin no longer matters. It doesn’t mean we make peace with our sin or use grace as an excuse to keep rebelling against God. It means our hope is not in our ability to be perfect. Our hope is in the One who already was perfect on our behalf.

Im not out on Herbert until I see him with a competent team around him. The only time he’s had 2 all pros on the offense, he threw for 5k yards and had 41 TDs Until the rest of the team steps up, I’m going to continue to give 10 the benefit of the doubt because we know who he is

Lamar has Zay. Last year, he had Zay Flowers, the best center in football, AND Derrick Henry. Still no playoffs. Hurts? He's had elite O-lines, two Pro Bowl WRs, and Saquon Barkley. A superteam for half his career. Yet he's 2-11 against .500+ teams without A.J. Brown—and both wins came against Saints teams starting backup QBs. He finally has a line that's not elite (still better than Herbert's) and has played poorly. Herbert? Three straight years of arguably the worst O-line in football, and his best weapon is Ladd McConkey. And we're really comparing their situations like they're remotely the same? What are we even doing here? 🤣

Burrow has Chase and Higgins. Dak has CeeDee and Pickens. Darnold went from Justin Jefferson to JSN. Purdy has spent most of his career with an All-Pro as his third option. Justin Herbert just played behind FOUR rookie offensive linemen, with Cole Strange in the mix, while WRs 1, 2, 3, 4 AND 5 were OUT. His leading receiver was Charlie Kolar. Read that again. Herbert has spent THREE STRAIGHT YEARS dealing with arguably the worst offensive line situation in football, yet people still act like he’s playing with an even average supporting cast. Nobody deserves a legitimate offensive weapon more than Justin Herbert. Jeremiah Smith season is in play. At this point, every loss is actually a win.
