Lending people money most of the time ends badly not because most of the debtors are dishonest people but the situation of the country. The thing I always tell privileged people like myself is you are almost certainly going to get requests from people who need help on a steady basis not just because you are too nice or generous but because THEY BELIEVE YOU CAN HELP. Nobody goes to ask for help where there is very little chance of getting it. People will prioritise the people with the path of least resistance. Though matter how sob the story is, you didn't put them in that situation. If you choose not to make that sacrifice for them no one can guilt trip you and if they do, it basically tells you everything you need to know about them. Na help no be entitlement. That is why I am putting this piece of advise out there for your sanity; just gift what you can afford to let go most of the time and learn to stop lending money to just anybody except to those are are absolutely worth it and for me it's a very very small circle.
