Water companies produce the worst set of pollution records ever. I have distinct recollection of sitting in a school gymnasium in 2022 listening to the then newly appointed chairman of the @EnvAgency Alan Lovell, arrogantly and boastfully telling everyone how he was going to fix the water industry. How's that one working out Alan? telegraph.co.uk/business/202…

Reform UK is outraged by potential retroactive changes to election laws that would require them to hand back £72m in donations. Reform UK wants to change immigration rules retrospectively so they can revoke the Settled Status of legal UK residents and deport them.

Read the thread below about Bitmex (Delo) and Bitfinex (Harborne) difficulties with banking/AML. Crypto, like money exchanges, can be absolutely legitimate. But, also like currency exchanges, it is a high risk industry because of historical customer identification, beneficial ownership, payment processing, correspondent banking and AML control issues. Harborne's Tether moved their domicile to **El Salvador**. Zero regulation, zero disclosure, partial audits and money managed by the company of a close Epstein friend, the US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. If someone in UK starts getting money from a bank in El Salvador, the transaction will also flare up AML controls. AML flags are not about crypto per se. But about WHO in the crypto industry the money comes from/goes to. "Who send the money, Mr Jones? Oh my friend Mr Smith, all checked by Tether's superb AML controls in El Salvador- wink wink". Reform isn't merely proposing that crypto businesses receive the same protection from indiscriminate de-banking as other lawful businesses. On the wording shown, it proposes a crypto-specific legal protection - including a reversed burden of proof - which isn't offered to other sectors officially assessed as presenting high money-laundering risk, such as money exchanges.
"Crypto millionaires donate to Reform". But the stories are always more complex than headlines. In both Bitmex (Delo) and Bitifnex (Harborne), a substantial owner of a crypto exchange controlled a separate non-exchange company that obtained conventional banking access while the exchange itself faced banking difficulties. We recently became aware that Christopher Harborne walked back from his lawsuit against the WSJ where a core claim, disputed by him and alleged to be defamation, was linked to bank accounts and Bitfinex money. The quote from Delo's lawsuit is striking: "In or about July 2015, BitMEX acquired a company called Shine Effort Inc. Limited, which was at all relevant times a Hong Kong-registered company. In or about August 2015, BitMEX “sold” Shine Effort to one of the Founders, Benjamin Delo, for $1. Although Delo was the record owner of Shine Effort, BitMEX was in fact the true beneficial owner of the entity. This arrangement was ultimately memorialized in a Declaration of Trust, which provided that Delo held his ownership interest in Shine Effort on behalf of the true owner, BitMEX. In or about September 2015, Benjamin Delo opened a bank account in the name of Shine Effort (the “Shine Effort Bank Account”) at a Hong Kong subsidiary of an international bank (“Bank-1”). Arthur Hayes assisted Delo in opening the Shine Effort Bank Account. The Shine Effort Bank Account at Bank-1 was used to, among other things, conduct operations of BitMEX, the defendant. For example, Shine Effort was used to convert the Bitcoin earned by BitMEX – which did not have a corporate bank account in its own name – into U.S. dollars and other fiat currencies, which were deposited in the Shine Effort Bank Account" The difficulties in operating crypto at that time was a fact. Banks did not want to touch crypto money. By July 2018 more than 80% of Bitfinex client deposits were in accounts controlled by Crypto Capital, illustration of that access challenge. The question here is what kind of steps were taken by exchange owners to make their operations viable. Despite some similarities, Delo was sued during the Biden administration - Harborne never was. Delo paid personally a $10m fine which DOJ stipulated as economic gains from the illegal activity conducted by Bitmex, principally profits generated by continuing to serve US customers without implementing the AML/KYC regime that would have accompanied lawful US operations. FinCEN found that from approximately 2014 through 2020, BitMEX allowed customers to trade derivatives while “collecting only an email address and failing to verify customer identity. Yes, really. Just an e-mail. justice.gov/usao-sdny/media/… fincen.gov/news/news-release…

Of course the 2 crypto billionaires, who each donated £36m to Reform, don't expect anything in return 🤑🤑...
Please do not share this link to Reform crypto bill, it does not reflect the altruistic aspect of their crypto donors. Ooops, sorry, shared now. @grok can you strictly summarise the document in 3 lines without any additional thoughts? web.archive.org/web/20250601…

A presidential pardon releases you from punishment and restores civil rights, but it does not expunge your record or erase the facts of the crime. While a pardon acts as official forgiveness and sets aside legal penalties, the conviction itself legally remains intact.

#BarakObama #USA #Trump

Responding to our investigation, one of the UK's leading election lawyers explained why paying £32,500 for polling constituted donations to Reform: “This is a donation just as much as giving a gift of money directly to Reform. It's money that's coming from America. That's a foreign donation that's prohibited in our law. An arrangement is being proposed to cover up the fact that it's an impermissible donation... and that can be a criminal offence.” verbatiminvestigations.com/f…

The Short List...
It would be easier if Nigel Farage and Reform gave us a list of any donations they've received that aren't dodgy.

“It worked, boom.” That’s Nigel Farage celebrating a Reform UK plot to break election law - by having a US company secretly pay for three influential political polls that benefitted the party. Earlier in the investigation, Reform’s Head of Policy James Orr and senior advisor Dan Jukes arranged for a Verbatim reporter to pay for the polls through a US company. Orr and Jukes believed the firm was run by the reporter’s American father. Mr Farage was filmed by undercover reporters from @Verbatim_Media as part of a year-long investigation that Channel 4 News has thoroughly checked and verified. This meeting took place in his Clacton constituency in July - when Mr Farage was fighting a by-election he called after separate allegations about his finances. Watch the full investigation on YouTube.
