Really enjoyed being able to speak about some of our community work at Escomb, as well as hearing about the great work of some of my fellow students!
The final paper of the first session is from John Castling (@JohnCastling @durham_uni), presenting 'Contextualising Escomb's Anglo-Saxon church: results from a community test-pitting project'.
Over 5 months after we first discovered Sir Arthur Haselrig’s lost 1650s mansion, it’s finally been covered over!
Such a great #Archaeology dig, that’s been loved by students, staff, volunteers and visitors alike.
Now to wash my very muddy coat and do some writing up!
Really enjoyed this whole day; learning more about zooarchaeology from the excellent Clare (@littlebonelady), and gaining some great ideas and for activities that our @aucklandproject YAC members are going to love!
Replying to @YAC_CBA
HUGE thanks to Zooarch Clare Rainsford & all our YAC Leaders for joining us for another training day
It was a great session & we're excited to share all the new resources with the wider network soon!
If you're a YAC Leader & have an idea for our next session do let us know!
4/4
ICYMI (I did), our @aucklandproject Young Archaeologists' Club @YAC_CBA was given an award by @DurhamCouncil's @DurhamYC! 🏆
Really proud of them for their kindness with each other & willingness to get stuck in with all sorts of #archaeology activities!

Exciting news, our archaeological excavation and trench tours are continuing into autumn! ⛏️
Watch our video with John to find out more.
Fairly mardy @arrivanortheast driver told me rudely to ‘fold up your pushchair’. Since I’m in no rush, I made a stand. Got off and waited for the next (very friendly) @gonortheast bus. Being as kind as you can is the hill I will get off the bus and wait another 10 minutes upon.

Archaeologists from @ArcDurham & @aucklandproject discovered some fascinating things during a summer of digs at Auckland Castle. And there’s still time to go along and see for yourself what they found ⛏️ bit.ly/4dw9PiP #DUinspire

The site is still open for visitors with tours running through the end of August! Come pay a visit @aucklandproject before Haselrigge’s dream house disappears under the lawn!

Lovely clay pipe found by Barry, Phil and Martin at Auckland Castle today!
Stamped by Thomas Park, from demolition rubble filling an internal doorway between cellars. Our resident clay pipe expert @MAIZR4 says it’s 1662-82, so perfect for John Cousin’s destruction of the house!
Ray has been found safely! He’s off to hospital to receive a bit of care, but we’re so relieved! Thanks to all those friends, followers and complete strangers who shared, prayed and sent kind words, as well as those who joined in searching for him. So very thankful!
This is my wife’s uncle, who’s gone missing today - please share to those in and around Romford/London. Thanks
We’re back on site at Auckland Castle with some finds to handle and some digging to see! We’ve got some family-friendly activities too. And volunteer Martin has taken over where Stephen was digging yesterday and has added some medieval green glaze pottery🏺 to Stephen’s handle.
We’re here until 3 today, and then back on the 8th-10th and 22nd-24th August, if you want to come down and visit us! #FestivalOfArchaeology @ThisisDurham @VCDBusiness @archaeologyuk @NewsBishop
