Jonathan Powell needs to resign. This is a major national security risk to the UK.
Sarah Helm, the wife of Britain's national security adviser, Jonathan Powell, took flak last week after appearing to support Palestine Action, the banned terror group, on Twitter. The police looked, but took no further action.
The Spectator can reveal that there is vastly more material, far more controversial than this, in Helm's tweets.
Helm has defended Hamas, questioned reports of mass rape by the terror group, blamed the 7 October attacks on the creation of Israel in 1948, compared Israel to the Nazis, and appeared to praise Syria's then dictator Bashar al-Assad for remarks in which he had called the Jewish state an 'outlaw colonial entity' populated by 'herds of settlers that are closer to barbarism than to humanity.'
She has also called for western military intervention against Israel and attacked her husband's own government for its 'complicity' and 'appeasement' towards Tel Aviv. Here are some of the highlights.

Sarah Helm, wife of the UK national security adviser Jonathan Powell, has far worse social media than was reported at the weekend. She's compared Israel to the Nazis; defended Hamas; and questioned reports of their mass rape. Me for the Spectator. spectator.com/article/revealā¦

Ban it now.
šØ er this seems important!
The Unite the Nation march in May this year was heavily restricted by the police and talked about for weeks beforehand by the media as something the country should be terrified of. ⦠Yet, it seems this āmarchā planned for 20th November is being ignored and Iād argue is what ordinary people should actually be terrified of.
They call it a youth strike (like they did in France) backed by socialist and anti-war organisations and it is encouraging schoolchildren and university students to walk out of lessons and take to the streets.
A demonstration is being advertised for Trafalgar Square in London and this is the organisersā manifesto ā¦
āŖļø The dissolution of NATO and an end to rearmament.
āŖļø Opposition to capitalism and demands for socialist change.
āŖļø Climate action and an end to fossil fuel capitalism.
āŖļø Support for Palestine and opposition to Israel
āŖļø Opposition to the political right and anti migrant policies
Their international campaign openly advertises blockades and occupation as well as strikes and demonstrations.
Does the Government know the scale of what is being organised? And what preparations are the Metropolitan Police making for 20 November? Or is this all fine?

This week a council approved a solar farm on two hundred and thirty-five acres of grazing, and the family who had run cattle on it for generations said it would probably finish them. The panels will be there for forty years. The cattle were there for four hundred.
The land is not the developer's. It belongs to an estate or a pension fund, and the developer offers a rent per acre no cow has ever earned. The farmer gets a letter. The council, told to triple solar by a minister who has never kept a beast, finds that the loss of a herd is not a planning consideration.
So the field goes under glass. In Britain a solar array produces for about one hour in nine. It makes most in June at noon, when the country needs it least, and nothing on a January evening, when it needs it most, so a gas station is kept idling behind every one. The panels are made in China from polysilicon out of a province the government will not name. They lose output every year they stand there, and at the end there is no plan and no bond for taking them away. A quarter of a million square metres of glass, aluminium and copper cable, in a field, with a thirty-year lease and a company that will not exist when it ends.
Under the panels the grass dies for want of light, the soil compacts under the plant, and the hedges go because the fence has to be electric and the fence has to be straight. The sheep in the brochure are for the photograph.
The cattle were a solar panel already. Grass takes the light, the cow converts it, and the output is beef, every day of the year, on no cable, no subsidy and no inverter, for as long as there is rain.
They have replaced a power station that makes dinner with one that works on a sunny afternoon and sits dead the rest of the time, and the family who ran the first one are being evicted to make room for the second.

We will all soon know what it feels like to be Jewish. In France, they already do.
It will be our just deserts for having abandoned the Jews, ignored their warnings, turned against them, and even marched alongside their oppressors.
For three years, you useful idiots have been parading Palestinian flags, sporting keffiyehs, screaming āFrom the River to the Seaā, and recognizing a fictitious Palestinian state as a reward for Hamasās October 7 massacre (looking at you, @EmmanuelMacron). You have boycotted the only Jewish state in the world, vilified the Jewish peopleās right to self-determination (aka āZionismā), and spread the āGaza genocideā blood libel.
Did you really think that if you fed the crocodile enough Jewish flesh, it would eventually be satiated? All you have done is embolden the monster and whet its appetite.
So you were worried about ācolonizationā? Look around. The only thing being colonized here are our own Western cities. The Palestinian flag has become a victory banner, proudly waved amid the ruins of looted and vandalized historic buildingsāa symbol of hatred for our civilization and everything it stands for.
It never ends with the Jews.

You've probably seen the video. A young Frenchwoman in Paris, in tears, begging looters to stop. "Why are you doing this? That's not what we stand for."
Some accounts are mocking her. "She voted for it."
I won't. Because what you see on her face is not stupidity. It's a disease that has infected the entire West, and it has a name: suicidal empathy.
The term comes from Gad Saad, an evolutionary behavioral scientist at Concordia University in Montreal. A man who fled the Lebanese civil war as a child, and who knows what it looks like when a society falls apart. His new book, Suicidal Empathy: Dying to Be Kind, is the follow-up to The Parasitic Mind. Here is the thesis, and why it concerns every one of us.
Empathy is one of the best things about us. It evolved for a reason: to care for our children, our kin, our tribe. It was calibrated for a world where the people you felt for were the people around you, and where empathy always came paired with its counterweight: the instinct to protect your own and to recognize a threat.
Suicidal empathy is what happens when that mechanism misfires. When it fires at the wrong targets, in the wrong amounts, with no brake. When we feel more for the criminal than for his victim. More for the stranger who breaks the rules than for the citizen who follows them. More for how compassionate we look than for what our compassion actually produces.
Where does it come from? Four layers.
First, biology. Empathy is a spotlight, as the psychologist Paul Bloom put it. It lights up the one face in front of you and leaves everything else in the dark. The crying migrant on the boat is visible. The thousands of future victims of a broken system are statistics. A spotlight is a terrible tool for running a country.
Second, our own civilization. The West is the civilization that put the victim at the center of its morality. Christianity taught us to care for the stranger, the poor, the weak. It was one of the greatest moral revolutions in history. But cut off from its other half, justice, responsibility, the duty to protect your own, it turns into something else.
Third, ideology. In The Parasitic Mind, Saad described idea pathogens, ideas that hijack our reasoning. Suicidal empathy is the emotional counterpart: an ideology that hijacks our compassion. It sorts the world into oppressors and victims, then demands unlimited empathy for whoever ranks as the victim, whatever they do.
Fourth, status. In the age of social media, empathy has become a display. Posting "refugees welcome" costs nothing and earns applause. The bill goes to someone else: the working class, the suburbs, the women walking home at night.
The results are everywhere. Criminals treated as victims of society. Sexual assaults by migrants met with lenient sentences. Self-defense branded as aggression. Borders treated as cruelty. Saad's conclusion is simple: a society dies when it would rather display infinite tolerance than use its survival instinct.
Now the part I'll add myself, and that few people dare to say.
On average, women score higher than men on measures of empathy. It's one of the most consistent findings in psychology, across cultures, and it makes perfect evolutionary sense: for most of human history, the survival of children depended on it. It's a strength.
But it means an ideology that weaponizes empathy will hit women harder. And the data shows it: in country after country, young women have moved sharply to the left of young men, especially on immigration.
This is where men have a responsibility.
Not to mock. Not to lecture. Not to say "she deserved it." Empathy has always needed a counterweight, and that counterweight was the protective instinct: the one that draws lines, says no, and stands between the threat and the people it loves.
Men abandoned that role. They were told it was toxic, and many believed it. So they stayed silent at the dinner table, at work, with their partners, sisters, daughters and friends.
That has to end. Men have to have this conversation, honestly and with respect: compassion that cannot say no is not compassion. It's surrender. And the first to pay for it are women.
Many women already understand this better than anyone. Some of the bravest voices in this fight are women, precisely because they are the first to feel the danger in the street.
A civilization rests on a balance: compassion and strength, openness and borders, mercy and justice. When one side swallows the other, the foundations crack. What we are watching in Europe is what happens when empathy has no counterweight left.
Look at that young woman again. She isn't the enemy. She's what this ideology made of a generation that was told kindness would be enough.
Our job is to make sure she's the last generation that has to learn it this way.

Bloody hell, it needed a whole report to state the bloody obvious?? That we are now totally dependent on China.
China controls
āŖļø 85% of global solar supply chain manufacturing.
āŖļø 95% of solar wafer manufacturing
āŖļø 90% of rare earth magnet production.
āŖļø 60% ish of wind turbine blade manufacturing.
They have been told again and again about forced labour in Chinese solar supply chains. And ministers admitted they donāt even know how many panels installed here were made in China!
So weāre replacing dependence on foreign fossil fuels ⦠with dependence on China.
And it needed a report?

I think it's inevitable that Jonathan Powell will step down as National Security Adviser.
How can he possibly continue in that position when his own wife has publicly supported a proscribed terrorist organisation?
The optics are horrific.
His position is untenable.
This senior aid to Andy Burnham surely has to be sacked? With his wife clearly being a security risk. mol.im/a/16214595
