So far Hamzat has expressed his views waste management, housing and traffic management and his position shows 1. Lack of knowledge: On waste, Hamzat said Lagos was dirty because the government estimated for 13,000 tonnes a day while the state actually produces about 17,000, so the shortfall comes as a surprise to them. It is shameful that someone who has been in Lagos politics for more than 20 years would say the state does not know how much waste it generates daily. He offered no short or long term solution to the issue either and blames everyone but the government for their incompetence. That points to one conclusion, Lagos would remain filthy under his leadership and he will be unaccountable. 2. Out of touch with reality: On housing, Hamzat told young Lagosians earning less than 100k to go back to their parents’ houses. He failed to recognise that high rents also affect older people and that most jobs that pays the minimum wage are always far away from home. Where, then, are 50, 60, and 70year-old supposed to go? He must have forgotten that Nigeria is home to over 160m people living in different level of multidimensional poverty. His grasp of the situation is shallow. He offers no real solutions and little empathy, and he is very detached from reality. I mean for someone whose entire lifestyle has been funded by public money, he appears unaware of what it means to work and earn a legitimate income. 3. He does not treat problems as problem, he see it as jokes and part of life. In this event, Hamzat said that Lagos traffic is what makes Lagos Lagos. He does not acknowledge the struggle of residents who spend an average of seven hours a day commuting to and from work, or how that harms productivity, health, social life, and work-life balance. He is used to moving with escorts who bully people off the road to clear a path for him in a hurry to do nothing. So he does not understand the struggle at all He does not treat traffic as a government failure and does not appear to believe there is a solution, because he has none to offer. Again, he is detached from reality, does not show a strong grasp of governance, and lacks the capacity to proffer solutions. He talks around the problems, makes excuses for them, and mocks the citizens who live with the consequences. Hopefully Lagosians will resist rigging this time and vote for a more competent and empathetic leader. If the goal is a cleaner, cheaper to live in, less gridlocked Lagos, we must all come together and resist any form of rigging I believe strongly that a New Lagos Is POssible
