Unite supports net zero, but NOT a jobless transition. Unite General Secretary Sharon Graham has been clear in conversations with the Prime Minister that barrelling ahead without concrete plans for workers and the UK's energy security is as far from a "just" transition as we can get. This decision gives us more time to create and fund a concrete plan for commensurate jobs for workers currently working in the North Sea. "Now we urgently need to use that and invest in industries like wind turbine manufacture and refining green jet fuel. We simply cannot let go of one rope until we have hold of another." #NoBanWithoutAPlan unitetheunion.org/news-event…

Behind every flight are workers who deserve to do their jobs without fear of abuse, intimidation or violence. No worker should have to put up with this. And no one should have to sacrifice their mental health to earn a living. Abuse like this should never be part of the job. That’s why Unite is demanding tougher action against abusive passengers, coordinated bans for serious and repeat offenders, and minimum safety standards to protect workers across airports and airlines. Take a minute and help us hit 1000 supporters in our ‘Abuse Doesn’t Fly’ campaign: actionnetwork.org/letters/as… #Aviation #AviationWorkers #WorkersRights #HealthAndSafety #EmploymentLaw

Abuse Doesn’t Fly? We agree!✈️ Unite MPs unanimously backed the campaign to expand provisions to ALL aviation workers - kerbside to airside. No worker deserves to be abused or assaulted when doing their job. @jon_trickett @PeterKLamb @RLong_Bailey @switherdenMP @IanLaveryMP @RichardBurgon @BaggyShanker @BeaversLorraine @YuanfenYang @NeilForPoole @RichardBakerMP @Euan4Falkirk @KimJohnsonMP @steveyemm @keirmather Unite National survey results have revealed shocking and increasing levels of abuse across the aviation sector. • 72% of ground staff report verbal abuse at least monthly • 71% of cabin crew report verbal abuse at least monthly • 31% of ground staff have experienced physical assault • 42% of cabin crew have experienced physical assault

✊ “One union that threw its weight behind the Battle of Cable Street commemoration was Unite. For weeks leading up to the anniversary, it dedicated staff time and resources to a variety of activities aimed at raising the profile of trade unions in fighting racism, using Cable Street as an example. Unite produced a widely circulated tabloid featuring a range of relevant issues in an accessible style alongside a range of campaigning materials. And on the eve of the 4 October parade, it organised a gig pitched specifically at younger people, as well as commissioning a stained-glass window commemorating the anniversary. “ tribunemag.co.uk/2026/10/tra…

We had a great time in Cardiff this morning at our retired members branch meeting. Members discussed our ongoing social care campaign in light of Andy Burnham's latest announcement on social care - asking, what does this mean for Wales? - as well as @TUC's campaign on energy. #RetiredFromWorkButNotTheFight

This is spot on. Blaming every complex problem on [_________ insert minority here] is a cynical tactic as old as the hills ... especially if you don't want voters focussing on the interests of your millionaire leaders and billionaire funders. Actually having a workable plan to fix our broken system in the real world is another story.

Privatisation of our water has failed - and utility companies are raking it in. Sewage in our waterways, spiralling bills, and now a new revelation: firms made more than £340m last year from processing wastewater at sewage works that are unable to remove many chemical pollutants. What’s the price of poisoning our water? Andy Burnham has promised to allow these companies to return to public control - he must follow through and nationalise. #DirtyBusiness #Privatisation #Nationalisation theguardian.com/environment/…

Tory leader Kemi Badenoch repeatedly invokes Margaret Thatcher to bolster her image, but as Badenoch conjures up her spectre, ordinary working people must remember the reality of Thatcher’s legacy. Thatcher’s governments set out to break trade union power, weaken workers’ collective strength and push working-class communities to the margins. The damage was real: industrial decline, lost jobs, devastated communities and an enduring assault on workers’ rights. Her legacy also ushered in an era of privatisation that feathered the nests of private investors and her allies, while taking essential utilities out of public ownership. Services that should work for the public good were increasingly run to generate private profit, leaving the nation paying the price to this day. Thatcher pioneered “brute force” tactics against trade unions. This wasn’t just political theatre. It was a deliberate confrontation with organised labour and the people it represented. Let’s never forget who paid the price for Thatcherism - and never let the Tories rewrite that history. Workers deserve better than a return to the politics of division, deindustrialisation and attacks on trade unions. They deserve an economy that works for the many, not one that puts private profit before people. #UniteForAWorkersEconomy archive.ph/2026.10.10-081100…

⚠️ NO BAN WITHOUT A PLAN Another warning of rising energy bills shows just how exposed working people are to the instability of global oil and gas markets. Conflict and price shocks abroad can mean higher bills at home. But the answer cannot be to leave oil and gas workers paying the price for a transition they had no say in. North Sea workers have the skills and experience we need to build our energy future. They deserve more than uncertainty, job losses and promises that never materialise. Unite’s No Ban Without A Plan campaign demands a properly planned transition, with investment, retraining and secure, well-paid jobs for workers and communities. We need an energy strategy that protects workers, brings bills down and delivers energy security - not one that leaves our future at the mercy of volatile markets and private profit. No worker should be left behind. No ban without a plan. ✊ independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho…

Fantastic to spend time with our retired members at their training day in the South West region! ✊ A big thank you to @UniteSharon for her contribution, and to all our retired members for the thoughtful discussions, terrific engagement and clear appetite to campaign. There was real determination to fight for a properly funded National Care Service that delivers the care people deserve, values care workers properly and doesn’t come at the expense of the pensions triple lock. Our retired members are a real inspiration - they may be retired from work, but they’re most definitely not retired from the fight!

If you don’t think revolution is happening in our lifetime, then you haven’t seen this clip of the based France ninja yet. This generation is different and has no desire to be ruled by a system that puts profits over people.

Data from the RAC Foundation shows that yesterday, the average litre of diesel hit 199.7p - higher than the previous peak in June 2022. This increases the costs of everything we buy, and the impact on working class families will be dire. We warned Labour before the 2024 election that they needed a credible transition plan for North Sea oil and gas, and for our refineries - one that put workers and their communities at the centre. "I've been sexually assaulted at work...6 months jail time & 7 years on sex offenders register" - Manchester Airport worker "Drunk and disorderly behaviour is quickly becoming the new norm onboard" - Gatwick Airport worker "Unfortunately I think it’s the way society is now. Yes drugs and alcohol are part of it....some of the passengers have no respect for our work" - Newcastle Airport worker Just a tiny sample of the horrific comments on Unite's national survey for Civil Aviation members - clearly there is a very serious problem that needs addressing with stronger sanctions and deterrents to protect workers & passengers alike. Ask your MP to sign @PeterKLamb's EDM 639 - Abuse Doesn't Fly today. actionnetwork.org/letters/as…

The disgraceful decision of Royal Mail to cut up to 2,500 jobs is just the latest example of privatisation failure in the UK. Shares were sold for a pittance in 2013 by then Tory Chancellor George "Gideon" Osborne - who's best friends employer Lansdowne Partners made a £36m profit selling their shares after just six months. Meanwhile, the service has got worse and the costs to post first class letters has tripled. The people of the UK have been taken for mugs time & time again. It's about time much of the mess of privatisation was reversed without compensation. unitetheunion.org/news-event…
